Hi,

Quick question - I have an AA Award ticket in F on the late flight out of LHR on Friday (CX 254). This flight is rather full - currenly showing F2, J0, Y0....

I would much preffer to take an earlier flight out of LHR to give myself more time in HKG. All the other 3 flights seem much more open.

So my question is, will CX let me standby for an earlier flight? I will be checking a bag if this matters.

I cant change the AA award as I have a connection to PEK and this must be within 24 hours under AA award rules.

Many thanks for any advice...

CX will want you to get AA to reissue the ticket first.

But fear not, CX is handled by AA in LHR! On the other hand, AA might want you to be booked in Z class properly otherwise they won't get you on the earlier flight.

Interesting - but problem is technically if i leave early, I will be breaking the 24 hour connection rule.

So basically from what you are saying, I wont be able to do this :(

Thanks for the help!!

No.. what I am saying is that, you can.. but AA would have to reissue the ticket. IF there is space.. as CX closes out availability 12 hours prior departure. So technically you won't be able to get the ticket reissued.

You may therefore just try it at the airport. CX may just very well let you get on an earlier flight without reissue. But I really don't know.

I've only used an AA award on CX once, but I wanted to do the same thing (take earlier flight the same day) except mine didn't have a change from transit to stopover. Time was tight for making the flight, and CX tried to be very helpful, but had to have AA reissue the ticket (despite no changes except for the flight number). Barely made the flight due to the time taken for the reissue. So it seems the reissue is mandatory (otherwise CX doesn't get paid by AA for the ticket?). In your case AA will not do the reissue if it breaks the rules of your original award (or may collect additional miles if the stopover increases the mileage and requires a more expensive award).
