Disney on board to cut airport lines
One expert wants to turn Grumpy into Happy.
The Disney World engineer who helped ease the wait for Peter Pan's Flight hopes to do the same for your flight.
The Department of Transportation has asked Walt Disney World, a place with notoriously lengthy queues, for help.
Chris Billings, Disney's transportation planning director who helped the theme park come up with a computerized way for people to avoid some of its long lines, just got the temporary job of doing something about airport lines.
"There's a whole psychology toward guest behavior and waiting in line. It's something we've put a lot of study in," Billings said, adding: "I don't like to wait in line."
One method Billings wants to explore is a frequent-flyer quick-line system. Frequent flyers would provide their information to airlines, have background checks, receive identification cards, and have physical descriptions compiled, based on unique body features, that can be used for quick verification.

I guess I was right -- Disney really is a secret government.

I thought for sure this article would be about Disney playing theme music to calm the queues. Somehow, I was picturing new speakers by the security lines blasting, "We Love To Fly, And It Shows."

Only the ones who actually design the attractions are imagineers. This guy does other engineering stuff for the Mouse, if I read it correctly.

Me, too. I was picturing Mickey, Goofy, Brer Bear and the rest of those little costume characters working the lines to cheer us up/

The operative word here is "cut." Anyone who's been to any of the Disney properties has seen the very best of (cutting in line/"saving a place"/letting your pals in) strategies.
You can see a variant of this in operation today at the SFO International security lines. Just show up late and you'll be escorted to the crew line so the flight isn't delayed.

Yeah, Disney's going to take over and we're going to end up with Dopey and Grumpy running things. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Actually, the folks inside the Goofy and Mickey costumes get paid WAY more than the folks at Argenbright, have better benefits and a more stringent requirement for education.
Think about THAT for a while.

OK -- I cannot resist -- dont you feel sometimes like these characters are already working in the airports http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Before I get flamed -- I am not saying ALL people -- just sometimes we hit them!

What came to my mind was 'fastpass' that Disney have implemented in their parks. For a future show you can go the entrance of the show and pick a fastpass and arrive just in time for the show to avoid the long queue for the 'general' public. Similarly, there could be 'fast-boarding-pass' for your future flights. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

And Buzz Lightyear can be your pilot!
