While I was walking back from an Japanese anime convention here in Anaheim, I ran across the usual batch of F/As from CX880 that arrive around this time period. As usual, like what I did within these past four days of the convention, I struck a conversation with them. During the discussion, the male pursuer pointed out that one of his fellow crew was wearing a vintage uniform and mentioned they just began doing this today. Unfortunately I didn't get a shot of her even though a few minutes ago, I was burning my 1GB camera memory on "cosplayers" a few minutes before... Does anyone know anything more about this? It's nice to see some nice classic uniforms along with the current ones IMO. :D

I notice the website says Cathay's birthday is 24th of September.

I will be flying CX this September 24th.

It is also my birthday September 24th.

I am not 60 though! ;)

Ar! One of the FAs in CX 416 today was wearing the outfit with the red cap.

There is a card accompanying the menu:

We're celebrating our 60th anniversary in style. From 3 July-30 September, our flight attendants will be wearing uniforms from 1946 to 2006. But while our fashions may have changed over the years, our focus remains the same-to give you the best possible flight experience. So relax while we serve you with classic Cathay Pacific hospitality.

I talked to one of the FAs. Apparently, CX asked about 2000 FAs to try on these vintage uniforms.

As you may know, CX also feature entrees from various HK restaurants as part of the 60th anniversary celebration. On the 888 today, from Lei Garden I had "Braised Ling Fish Fillet with Bean Curd Sticks and Mushroom Steamed Rice and Boiled Choy Sum". Excellent!

I saw a few FAs on July 4th HKG-KIX CX 506 wearing these vintage uniforms. Looks really cool and I love the concept! I also bought a limited edition CX Boeing 707-300 model (one of 6,000 produced) from the inflight shop. ^

they even have a video introducing the entire vintage gig right after the world city video... or was it right after the fitness video?

CX 901 HKG-MNL this morning had a couple, on in 50's style and didn't place the other...but all looked smart. Asked about a fashion pareade but was politely refused!

IMHO a nice touch.

I think the hats are really classy - occasionally you see them on UA crews, I assume they are part of an old UA uiform. I look forward to seeing the vintage uniforms when I fly BKK-BOM in a few weeks.

Pardon my ignorance, what do you mean by asking about a "fashion parade"?

Catwalk inside the aircraft I suppose, and yes the vintage uniforms crew are randomly choosen to be on a flight, therefore u may see a couple with the same style or u can find 4-5 in different style.....and in Sept, u may hv a chance to buy the CX vintage Barbie Doll.............(hv a chance..becos the marketing people had talked about it in the begining of this year.....but so far no further details yet...) stay tune....

The cabin crew were asked to volunteer if they wanted to wear the old uniforms. They were then allowed to give their preference for which uniform, and were given this to the extent possible, whilst trying to ensure that all of the uniforms were properly represented. The staff that have these uniforms will wear them throughout the 3 months.

Apparently there are on average 3 per flight, although there were 5 on the JFK-YVR sector of CX889 on 14 July. I've found the crew very happy to talk about the uniforms, and on one flight when I asked the CSD she arranged for all of the crew wearing the old uniforms to come to my seat so I could see them.

Were they evenly distributed in all 3 cabins? On 11 July CX889 YVR-HKG there was only one wearing vintage uniforms in J.

I don't think they are evenly distributed. On CX888 on 12 July YVR-JFK none of the vintage uniforms was in F. On CX889 on 14 July JFK-YVR and YVR-HKG there was 1 in F on each leg, and several elsewhere - not sure of the exact numbers.
