Hertz - Why is Hertz better than other rental companies?

It seems to me that Hertz is consistently more expensive than other companies, including National. National doesn't usually charge a drop fee for one way rentals, even if from a local city location to the local airport.

I would like to stick to one rental company; I have not done so in the past, but don't have time to look around any longer.

We have Amex Plat which gives us 3% back, but that doesn't make much of a difference.

Here are some reasons for me: Consistent service, good quality and variety of cars, prestige collection cars, #1 award points, good corporate customer service.

We like to rent nice / exotic cars on our vacations. Not many other rental company have cars like Cadillac XLRs, Audis, Hummers, Infiniti, Jaguars (not available anymore unfortunatly), etc. Hertz allows us to collect award points on our business rentals to rent these nice cars on our vacations.

Their Gold service is what make me come back. I find National, Alamo, Avis, Dollar, and Budget to be very lacking in getting me to my car as quick as Gold. I belong to the previous car programs also.

I rent a car every week at least -- that said price does matter and I use Hertz about 75% and the other car companies 25%. Next weekend it is Alamo over Hertz because of Alamo is $20 a day less.

But the Hertz service is far above all the rest. So if the price is within 5-7 dollars I go with Hertz.
