You can convert 5,000 GP to 500 airline miles. Many airline CC's give 10K to 20K mile sign-up bonuses. To entice me to sign-up for a GP CC I would have to be offered 100K to 200K GP, based on their own swap value equation.

I appreciate the information from CHW, but in my mind the GP CC is just not competitive.

I'm actually considering the card, even if I only use it for Carlson hotel stays. I agree with loomis though, 20,000 points isn't that impressive. However, I rarely (if ever) convert my GPs into miles. The sign-on bonus is good for a redemption at a tier 1 hotel (mostly Park Inn and Country Inn it seems). I recently used the points+cash option and found it to be a good value, especially when standard rates were a little higher.

IIRC 5,000 GPs equals more like 625 miles. Still not great (not even good), but a little bit better. ;)
