While talking to the Diamond Desk about some other matters today, I asked them to double check a confirmed reservation that I had for July at the DoubleTree at the DTW airport. I had noticed that after the reservation number on my home page did not include the name of the hotel or the dates as my other reservations did.

After some time the agent informed me that the hotel was no longer a Hilton!
I was shocked and uttered my amazement that I had not received any notice of this. What if I hadn't checked on it and just showed up? The DD blamed the Hotel and said it was there goof that I had not been informed. But due to the fact that the hotel was no longer Hilton, it wasn't Hiltons fault.

I expressed my disappointment and was asked if I would like some help finding another res. They transferred me to the "problem" dept who again insisted that it was the hotel's fault.

I suggested that they might sooth my disapppointment with a certificate or some points, but they told me they couldn't do that.

Was I expecting too much?

Oh and now I'll have to call DD back to see if my cancelation for that hotel is automatic or do I have to call the hotel to cancel. I suppose it's a Hilton any more so it's not thieir responsibilty. But then I did make my reservation with Hilton.

:(

I think you were expecting too much. I can't see any way compensation was due given that you never actually checked in. Its not like you're any worse for wear at this point. Moreover, I think if you had gone and checked in on a reservation you made while the Hotel was a Hitlon, Hilton would have had to give you points/stay credit for the stay because you wouldn't have known until you checked in. But now, I think you're out of luck on that regard, especially if you've already canceled it.
