Contemplating either J or Y on KQ red-eye flight to nbo from jnb. I hear good things about KQ J product but the flight is only 4hours and after the meal service there is barely time for a power nap. So, not sure its worth three times the price of Y and wondering if anyone had any experiences. Currently for my dates (xmas holiday 06)Y is $540 and J $1600, given that I dont follow these markets/prices, are these prices high/low??

KQ is nothing about which to write home. They're more on par with South African, which is not a good thing.
When I took this very same flight last April (connecting to NBO), it was an hour late in boarding/taking off, which was painful considering the hour. The f/a's in steerage were not motivated in the least, and really not wanting to do anything except sell duty free.
A bit off topic: For the trip back, we decided to change the itinerary and fly nonstop on the new NBO-JNB flight. The agent at the KQ ticketing desk (we went on Saturday, departing on Sunday) said it had to be re-priced in JNB, and that office was closed. She booked us anyway, pending the what the pricing desk came back with. One of us (there were 4 of us travelling) called the travel agent in JNB who priced it in Rand and told us what it should be. When we arrived at the airport on Sunday morning, the agent said she hadn't heard back from JNB, so we told her the amount of the add/collect and she processed it on the spot (nb. - the charge still hasn't hit my Amex. account). Really, we could have made up anything. We could have made up zero. We also wanted to upgrade to biz. (since the experience on the flight to Nairobi was so bad), but again, they still couldn't price it.
So there wer were in steerage for the return. My friend and I were sitting in same row, seats D and F. When the last couple boarded they REALLY wanted to sit together, but only the B and E seats in our row (I forget the row#) were open, and that was their assignment. They whined and whined and puled and moaned that they HAD to sit together, so KQ got all clever to 'think out of the box' (in the wrong way) and moved them to business class. So they kissed our revenue goodbye and then gave the seat to whiners. The flight back down was the same as the flight up.
It's a lot to pay for the difference to biz., but we were willing to pay any price for it considering our experience in Y, so if you do opt for biz. please let us know how it compared to my Y experience.

KQ redeyes in Y are painful experiences.
The J class cabin on the 767/777 is fabulous. The cabin on the 73G isn't worth the cost/effort of the upgrade.

I flew KQ NBO-JNB last year, and as B747-437B alluded to, it depends wich flight you are talking about. The difference between the KQ 737 and 767 is amazing; I have flown both and made the mistake of chooseing the later 737 fligth on this route. The 767 has a modern business seat that reminded me of NWA business on their new airbuses...and great service on all my KQ flights. I have only flown them in business so far and will be trying them in econ come December. 737s my December route, so not worth getting business.
