Budget Travel - Fall fares to England: turning point?

I'm planning a trip to England in late October and starting to see fare sales (mainly BA) thru mid to late October. No really outsanding deals yet as it is a bit early. Best so far is 600 on BA incl. 2 free nights in London thru October 25.

Should I expect to see fares drop even further in late October as we get further into summer? Is there anything about late October that might keep prices high compared with mid-October?

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

The last couple of years I think the late fall sale fares showed up sometime in September. The best fares were for travel starting November 1 or later.

What airports/cities are you departing from? If you have multiple choices, that can make a difference. So will having flexible travel dates, as sometimes day-of-week restrictions will apply to fares.

I will be watching for late fall specials as well and hope to take advantage of a nice transatlantic sale. ^

DC area -- so some flexibility with three airports. Have to be at a wedding weekend of the 21st, but flexible on the front/back end. Prefer to fly into London, but could possibly do Manchester, if the fares were that much better.

I assume the BEST I can do might be 400 RT (incl. tax, fuel, etc). Would really prefer to fly USAIR or NW for the miles, but BA and Virgin seem to have the best deals.

But I agree that it seems that there are currently fare sales going thru Oct 25th, then pause for 5 days, and then there's new pricing from Nov. 1 on. Curious why that is.

I have been watching this for awhile now since I'm traveling in December to UK. I have found that the lower fares fly into Manchester. However, currently BMI has a promotion going from several locations (see below) and they are a *alliance partner so you would get your miles.

I've also found some lower fares on Expedia departing out of PHL. Beware-these fares do not award miles.

I've spent the past 3 Thanksgiving in Europe and have found after Labor Day fares drop significantly. I'm holding out for JFK-GLA this year and right now my carrier of choice is almost $700 for my dates but I know will drop below $600. If not I take the much cheaper CO this time as I've made status on UA for 2007.

When you multiply times TWO for R/T and add taxes the prices aren't quite as attractive :(

Oddly enough, I can't find much availability to the UK for the month of November. Seats available in Oct and December but Nov is empty. Anyone have any idea why this is? No known UK holidays in that month.

It could have something to do with the fact that UK schools are on holiday for a week at the end of October - making that week peak travel time to and from the UK.
