Travel Technology - Blackberry 8707v
On my flight home from HK, read advertisement from SmarTone/Vodafone re launch of above model. It's 3G and supposed to work in GSM markets plus Japan and HK.
If anyone picks one up, be interested in feedback. I have separate phone for Korea and my Treo of course is useless for getting email or internet...so this might be a good compromise solution.

Most 2.5 G phones work in Hong Kong, including my BB 8700g. Korea and Japan are the toughies - CDMA is a challenge....

Right now I have no plans of buying this phone… but recently I have heard a lot about this phone so I was trying to learn more about the product and interestingly I came to know that with this UMTS-enabled Blackberry 8707v you can simultaneously make voice call as well send and receive emails, browse the internet and other applications as well and yes I should not forget to mention that this blackberry can also be used as a wireless modem for your laptops so you can stay connected… nice product hope to get it soon..

I thought I'd bump this thread from this past fall to find out if anyone knew when the Blackberry 8707v (or comprable), would be available from a US provider. This is the model that is quad band GSM, 3G and also UMTS2100 for Japan. Or somthing like that.
Thanks,
I've got one of these on Optus here in oz - it's not too bad....yes you can talk on the phone and send emails and surf the net all at the same time when its connected to the 3g network. But be warned that battery life stinks when in 3g mode (about 1 full day with about 30 mins on the phone) and it isn't as fast as an regular 8700 processor wise. go to some of the bb forums like bbhub.com or blackberryforums.com for more info.
