Hertz - Cars with Aux jack/cassette player

I rent a lot from Hertz, and I drive a lot so I have an iPod and a portable Sirius receiver that I listen to. Cassette players used to be standard equipment on cars just a few years ago and now they have been replaced with cd players.

So, I'm starting this thread, much like the Ride Reports thread in hopes of providing a listing of cars that have a tape player or (more favorably) an Aux jack in the factory stereo.

Had a Chrysler Pacifica the other week from DCA (NY plates) with an aux jack. No cassette player though.

As do the last S40/80s I got in BOS. No AUX.

I've had Infiniti G35's with a tape deck... but then again, i've recently had ones that don't... go figure.

BMWs generally seem to have aux jacks...

2006 G35 I had in early May (PIT) did not have a tape deck.

2006 Toyota Highlander I had a few weeks ago at PVD did have a tape deck. I was surprised at that, actually.

I've been just using the built-in FM transmitter of my portable Sirius receiver anyway, which works very well most of the time. The most trouble I had with it I think was more due to the really rainy weather that day, sat reception issue rather than the FM.

How about also making a list of cars in which the CD player will play MP3s?

Past two rentals were Mustang converts out of BOS. The first Stang was equipped with the basic 'junk' stereo. The next had the Shaker 500 with MP3 and CD6 + Sirius and subs to boot. Luck of the draw? And the AUX button on the Ford stereos is still there for show - what it actually does is anyones guess.

-Had a couple New body style Mustangs where the CD player could play MP3s

Add the LR3 to the list. I've rented ones both with and without the Harmon-Kardon audio, and they both have aux-in. It's in the rear console area, facing the rear seats.

The Lucerne plays mp3's as well (CXL)

M/M 3.5 mm jack (aka mini plug)

You can get them in 3+ ft sizes. I have a couple from headphones that I've bought, and broken, that had removable cables. Also, you might check for a retractable version, to make packing easier.

Just got done with a weekend rental of the Impala. Aux jack and a pretty decent stereo to boot.

I got to the rental desk at SFO fairly late thanks to an hour's delay out of DFW. I initially got a Ford 500, which I'd driven before and knew did not have an AUX jack. I went back to the Gold desk and explained my requirement to the guy. I think it was a good thing that it was so late, because there was nobody else around who needed attention. He gave me a list of cars he had that had a NL installed and let me check them all out for an AUX jack. After three unsuccessful attempts, I hit the Impala.

I believe all the Kia's I've gotten out of CVG (& DAY) have NOT played MP3s. Beware.

Ive been getting some Saturn Vues and they have aux jacks. Camry I think had an aux jack too. You will see some differences between model years as well. I think most 2007s now have aux jacks as car makers are finally learning that people have iPods :rolleyes:

The Hyundai Sonatas that I've gotten have played mp3's. Haven't noticed any cars with auxiliary input jacks, but I definitely will pay attention from now on.

If you see an AUX button without an obvious jack, check the inside of the armrest bin. That's where it is on some Ford models.

In YYZ in the last few weeks:

BMW X3 had an aux jack in the centre console. (P4)
300C had a 6 CD MP3 changer in dash and tape deck, but not aux jack (YG)
Ford Freestyle had MP3 player and DVD in back seat - no aux jack

The new ('07 i think) Volvo S80's have an aux input in the center console. But no more Sirius built in.

Drove a 2007 Mariner in MSP last week. Decent car, nice, smooth V6 engine. Had the AUX input right on the dash, near the bottom. Its CD player also played MP3 discs, with a nice display of the song tags (title and artist) right on the console at the top of the dash. Strange, though - no outside temperature display!

I would believe that its Ford cousin, the Escape, is set up the same way.

SFO gave me a Hyundai Azera recently with both a CD player and a cassette tape player.

Ford Fusion (rented in LAS) has an aux jack inside the center console/armrest. Stereo mini type plug. Also a cigarette adapter in there as well. Nice touch. In-dash CD player plays MP3 CDs and the car came with NL even though it wasn't requested.

'07 Avalon SLX has CH changer and also tape player. No MP3s, no AUX jack.

The Expedition a co-worker had out of SFO had an AUX jack just below the stereo, and played MP3 cds. The Grand Prix I was in had neither, but, did have 3 channels of XM (Emergency Alert, POTUS 08, and Sports Guide). I only discovered the XM on my way back to SFO, so, didn't have a chance to try and figure out if there was a way to get other channels or not.

I had a Saturn Outlook in November that had an AUX jack...IIRC, it was near the stereo itself.

FLL Corolla S did not have sat option or aux jack, only had built-in single-CD. Ugh.

07 Honda Civic EX, had AUX jack.

Have an 08 Honda Civic now. Has AUX jack. It's down low on the dash next to the power socket, with a similar flip out cover. I thought there were just two sockets there at first until I looked more closely. Cool, I won't have to hunt for a station to use my Sirius receiver. ^ The dash is so deep, though, that my usual windshield mount is probably pointless. ;)

07 and 08 Ford Mustangs both have AUX jacks in the center consoles, no tape players in either.

Does anybody know if the Escalade does have an AUX input?

Thinking about renting one for our three week roadtrip in summer and this option would be very appreciated.

I've had two 08 Mercury Malans recently, both came with Microsoft SYNC (BT phone and audio, AUX port and a USB port)

08 Audi A6 - neat MMI, but no AUX jack. Did have Sirius, though subscription was expired.

Just rented a Ford Edge today with an AUX jack for my IPOD.

I rented a Ford Expedition EL for the weekend (PHX) and it had both MP3 capabilities, as well as the aux input. Better than that was the Sync system with blue tooth...it downloads your address book. Also, it has a usb jack in the center console, which reads your ipod and plays song based on voice commands...really cool!! ^

I recently rented a Infiniti G37 out of LAX that has the ports for the red, yellow and white wires but not for AUX A.K.A. 3.5mm audio jack. Is the AUX jack located in this car and if yes, where? XM radio sucks for Latin music and I prefer using my PDA.

If those red/white/yellow RCA jacks are for AUX (Is there an AUX button for the audio system on the dash?) then all you need is a splitter adapter cord, splits the 3.5mm jack into red/white RCA plugs. Should be readily available anywhere there's a little bit of electronics. Yellow is usually for composite video, which would be somewhat odd, but maybe it does indeed allow video in.

EDIT: Confirmed that that is an AUX input so you just need the adapter cable and you'll be set.

2009 Toyota Corolla LE, had AUX jack on dash behind its own little cover. The power port was behind what is really like an ashtray cover, though (smoking package?) and there's another power port inside the armrest cubby.

2009 subaru legacy. aux port in center console... open up the console to find it. power port in retractable ashtray in bottom-center of dashboard.

Success is a moving target and music at your feet or finger tip, new one keep replacing old ones but they do carry forward the best features of old and drop out the undesired ones. Tape Deck or cassette player or CD player now have iPOD.

renting a mustang in a month (coupe) will it come with a sirius radio, or aux input? also any luck getting an 2010 model?

Drove a new 2010 Camry at the dealership I work at today. Same body style, but a host of improvements inside. XM trial comes on the base model, and there is an AUX input and USB integration standard. As the Camry is a "Green" car I would imagine they'd be hitting the Hertz fleet fairly soon.

EDIT: Turns out the USB integration and XM radio only come on the Touring Package model, which in Canada is about $2,200 more at retail than the base package. They might not be on Hertz lots but you never know.

Usually, when I get a Focus in the UK, there is an aux jack located just inside of the glove compartment door. It is fairly nondescript, being black plastic like the rest of the dash, but it is generally located to the far left. However, I picked up a Focus yesterday that didn't have one. I'm 3/4 on the Foci now...

2009 Kia Cee'd (UK specification): class C from Glasgow City. Had both a USB jack and an AV jack at the bottom of the centre console. Slot loading CD player with MP3 capability (although didn't test this).

got a pretty thrashed 2008 hyundai tucson (~32K miles) with a cassette player at ORD today

2008 Mazda 5, class YC in TPA. The AUX jack and power point next to each other at the bottom of the center console behind separate flip-up covers. Sadly, no convenient place to put an iPod touch.

I just picked up a Kia Ceed in GLA, and it has an AUX jack and USB port directly below the ashtray. Unfortunately, that is easily the best feature on this sh!tbox...
