Good evening everyone.

I am planning a trip down through the USA, with a stop in Spokane. I have the oportunity to stay at the Doubletree Hotel Spokane City Centre.

I did a search in the forum, and the most recent information was from 2 years ago, so I started up a new thread.

I have a few questions pertaining to the hotel.

:-: I've heard reports (from the 2 year old thread) that the hotel is very outdated. From the photos I saw on the web, the rooms looked updated, unlike the description. Did they recently undergo a renovation?

:-: I'll stay here in early August. I'm not sure on the exact layout of the hotel, if all rooms have views of the river. Will I have to pay extra to get one? Should I email the hotel ahead of time and request one?

:-: I've heard that there a many resturants situated around the hotel. Which would you recommend?

:-: If you've stayed at this hotel before, is it "HHonorable" of your business?

Thank you very much for any answers you can provide.

I don't know most of the answers to your questions. But I do find it can help to add any request to the notes section of your booking; they do seem to read them most of the time, even if it is often at the point they check the following day's bookings.

I see the hotel's online listing says, among other things: "Recently upgraded rooms with brand new ''Sweet Dreams by Hilton'' beds. Each room is spacious and elegantly appointed with all the services of a first-class hotel. Included are FREE hi-speed wireless internet access, tea/coffee maker, 2-line phone, iron/board, and a warm Doubletree chocolate chip cookie at check-in. City, park, and river views available." So, there has been some refurbishing, it sounds like, and "available" river views mean just that - they are not common to every room.

Of course, please DO post a report - the more the merrier, and it is that kind of thing that makes it easier when we go to search out hotel information; it can't be we have no FTers who have stayed at the Spokane DoubleTree within the last two years.

They claim to have updated the rooms, but I honestly couldn't tell. My lamp and my alarm clock were both broken.

Not all the rooms have a view of the river, not even the lounge does.

The steak house in the hotel is one of the best in the nation.

As a diamond, they give you a whole tin of cookies.

First, realize you are talking about Spokane. This Doubletree is a great choice if you are in Spokane. I stay there three times per year; the last time a few months ago. The lounge is very nice and accommodating - good food and drinks. Great staff. The steak house is very good. The rooms viewing the river are not worth extra $$. Many good food and bar options in walking distance.

If you want to stay in a much better place near by, go to Coeur d'Alene Idaho and stay at the Coeur d'Alene hotel.

Good hotel, not great but good. As a Diamond they do a excellent job of taking care of you. The lounge is not bad and I agree the steak place is fantastic.

As a HH Diamond, I have two stays at this property and have been upgraded both times. Rather than eat in the local restaurant, being a native Texan, I would walk across the street and eat at Chili's. There is also a very good Mexican food chain "Azteca" on the same side of the street from Chili's.

The rooms are spacious, they have a "HH floor," I think 14th. I have been upgraded to river views on both my stays as diamonds to something akin to a "large room" mini-suite. Separate sitting area, then larger bed area, toward the end of the "wings" you can see from the street. The decor was ok--- the beds have been updated, but the bathrooms are nothing special and have a very 1970's color scheme and feel to them.

Last time I was there, there was a toenail clipping (not mine) on the nightstand next to the alarm clock. My wife chasitized me for putting that there. I just smiled...

I was last there in February. Parking at that point was "in flux." They have built a new shiny parking garage and gave you a "coupon" to get your car out of "hock" but the parking garage, as I recall, was somewhat non-intuitive.

Check-in at the hotel has been very nice in my experiences.

Of course, my wife and I were just getting back from 2 weeks in China with a new adopted daughter, so most things were nonsensical at that point. YMMV.

I stayed there last weekend. The rooms were OK - typical DT rooms. As mentioned before I got a free tin of Cookies as a Diamond and free internet. The Lounge was well stocked and staffed. While it wasn't "out of this world" it carries the name pretty well.

One odd thing though - the staff doesn't seem to know the rooms. I don't like rooms with connecting doors. (bad experience with a malfunctioning lock one time) The room they gave me had a connecting door. They had me playing 'musical room's for 3 rounds before I finally got a room without a connecting door.

Do they have an airport shuttle? What's the easiest/cheapest way to get to the hotel around midnight?

Yes they have a shuttle. If you are arriving at midnight, the shuttle may be operating. I’m not sure you would have to check with the hotel but taxis are also available.

What is the treatment of HH Golds booking via Hotwire? Any experience being upgraded to club level?

My only memory is that it's in a nice location and the steak house was great.

Stayed here many times and like it. Nice Exec room with ok snacks and decent b'fast. No open bar. One of few D'trees to give diamonds a full big tin of cookies:) Parking in convention center ramp adjoining is free for diamonds. Spencer's Steak House is a fine eating facility. There is one in the Seattle Airpport Hilton, too. Overall, an ok place. There is another, very old hotel (the Davenport, I think) which has a fine restaurant. It's walking distance away.

Update: Lounge now closed. Diamond substitute is continental breakfast in restaurant; nothing in evening, that I'm aware of. Fitness Center updated with Precor equipment; still nice. Hotel staff still competent.

They did give me a can of cookies at checkin a couple of weeks ago. Overall it is an older hotel, that could use some touchups, but the staff was decent and there are very few hilton properties in the area.

I was offered a can of cookies too. Several other Hilton properties around now, but not downtown. The competition is mainly a couple of Marriott affiliates and some local places.

Only Gold, two cookies in paper envelopes, continental breakfast coupon, upgrade to full buffet for $4.70, 2 water bottles in very very large strangely shaped room which had a TV in a wall unit that was so far from the bed as to be unwatchable and 2 uncomfortable chairs closer to TV.

All staff were very nice and free airport shuttle.

This hotel is a regular 3* bid on Priceline, and I stayed at this property a few weeks ago for a $47 bid ($60 including taxes and fees.). I showed my Diamond card at check-in and was given a can of cookies but no upgrade. (The hotel was full with a Women's Barber Shop Quartet convention.) Just be aware that there are other 3* properties downtown, like the Red Lion on the River, so you're not assured of getting the Doubletree on a 3* bid.

I'm back at this hotel. Overall, nothing has changed. Some cosmetic update would be appropriate. No lounge. Cold/continental breakfast buffet not being offered these days, due to low occupancy.

I've had some personal issues during this stay, and hotel staff has been helpful "above and beyond". And, as grumpy as I've been, they continue to be friendly/concerned/considerate. When I think of "exceeding expectations", this is it.

Stayed here this past weekend and had a great stay. Hotel is older, but in decent shape and very clean. Excellent staff and perhaps the finest Diamond benefits I've experienced at any property in quite awhile:
- Upgraded to two-room executive suite
- Full tin of cookies on check-in (offered a free second tin at checkout, but declined)
- Free wireless internet
- Free parking in the garage (normally $16/day)
- Free continental breakfast certs (valued at $10 each towards hot buffet or menu items....breakfast in the Shutters cafe was excellent by the way)

Would certainly stay here again.
