Hi all,

My first trip report for Flyertalk.

I'm currently sat in my hotel in Osaka writing this report. I must say that Emirates is an absolutely outstanding airline in cattle class and I will definitely want to fly them again.

13/06/06 MAN -> DXB on EK18

So I finally got rid of my parents at Wigan and got on the train to MAN. I'd missed the direct train and so I had to change at Salford Crescent but that wasn't too much of a hassle. Arriving at MAN I made my way to T2. The EK desks at T2 are a fairly large concern. Theres like 6? desks for just one airline and 2 flights a day. I'd checked in online and so checking in was a fairly painless process. The only slight problem was that I think my hand luggage was overweight but I got away with it because I had a laptop inside as well. I got my 2 boarding passes and was on my way.

Speaking of Man Terminal 2 itself I think Terminal 1 is nicer but T2 still does have it's charms. I like how the concourse is situated behind the check in desks. I picked up my $$$ from Travelex. It's surprising how the exchange rate is so much better if you do it online but the only problem is that it generates a lot more paperwork than if you just buy it on the day. I stopped off at the Comfort food place at one end of the T2 concourse. I had a bacon butty and some potato skins. The potato skins were especially nice. After which I made my way through security. This was thankfully a relatively painless process and MAN hasn't yet gone silly like other airports ^ . The T2 lounge is a bit strange in my opinion and I don't really get the layout. It's not as nice as the T1 lounge and it's nice layout but it works. I sat down watching plaes as they came in and then I saw the A777 from Emirates come in. Boy oh boy is that a nice plane and finally twigged where the gate was gonna be.

Theres some photo's of DXB / MAN / the planes here -> http://www.flickr.com/photos/gumbaloom/sets/72157594164345974/

I'm surprised how Emirates has their own dedicated gates for their flights :eek: . I was just like WOW. I had to wait around a bit before I was able to get in to the gate. I saw all the flight attendants come pass. Boy do they staff their planes well. Finally we were allowed in to the gate. On my flight for some reason the load was surpringly light. There was only a light spattering of PAX at the gate. The boarding procedure was surprisingly in order unlike some other flights but I'm not sure everyone took notice of that.

Boarding the plane I was in awe at the decor. Emirates sure like to deck their planes out nice and I like the ambient lighting system. You'll see what I mean about the light loads when you look at the photo's as the section of the Y PAX cabin that I was in was almost empty :cool: .

To be continued...

Nice start to a TR, always like to hear trip reports originating out of my home base, for better or worse, MAN T2.

I never noticed that EK had dedicated check-in counters; are you sure they're not like most counters where the checkin agents just slip in a different logo behind the backlit screen?

I like your pictures, lotsa people sleeping on the floor (in DXB?), and the interior of the EK 777 looks pretty nice!
