I can't really answer your question directly, but have you ever used http://www.hostelbookers.com/ ?
The cheapest "shared" accomodation was US$4.13, about 35RMB.

Absolute cheapest dorm in Beijing. Preferably close to Subway.
No suggestion on the dorm, but I'd question the importance of being close to the subway. Unlike Shanghai's system, it's not very useful (yet).
If you want to do Beijing on the cheap, rent a bicycle or get a bus map. The city buses/mini-buses will take you everywhere you want to go including Xiang Shan Park and the Ming Tombs.

The subway network is quickly expanding due to the olympics but it doesn't really reach many of the tourist or interesting places. Buses do go absolutely everywhere but are rather slow :rolleyes:
