K all probaly a dumb question but here goes.

Is there any technology out there where one can achieve internet access while camping?

Am planning to visit my sister whos' terminally ill and she want to take me camping for a few days of my stay. I have to work during the day or rather be logged into work to send emails - check IM's - access sites etc.

We will have power as she has a travel trailer. Also if there is anything is their one that can be achieved only for only a week without having to sign up for a whole monthly plan or anything.

thanks,

The question is, will there be cell phone service where you are camping? If so, chances are you can use a cellular modem to connect with.

Check with Verizon Wireless, they have an EVDO modem that slides into the PCMCIA slot of your laptop and will give decent speeds if you are in an EVDO coverage area.

Alternatively, Cingular and T-mobile also have GPRS/EDGE modems that are slightly slower.

Both providers should have a 14 day trial where you can try the service and modem and return it if you aren't satisfied.

If you have a Blackberry with either provider, you can tether your Blackberry to your laptop with a USB cable and use that as a modem.

Are you coming to CA? The state parks here have wi-fi internet access.

You can purchase a 24 hour pass for $7.95 (I have access through my hmoe account for $1.99 a month).
