I'm trying to book a hotel in Germany this weekend. The hilton web-site shows no availability. When I check on travelocity there are still rooms available. I can even choose between 3 diferent room types.
I know I can just call Hilton and ask but I just wanted to inform you all that " no availability" doesn't always mean that there are no rooms available
Update:
Just noticed that if I select the hotel form the list and then check for availabilty again, suddenly a list of available rates show up.

This was once sent to me in a PM, but I nolonger have it. I've forgotten how this is actually worded, but a specific hilton property might be sold out of rooms that it has in its inventory to sell, and a third party channel might have inventory, to sell, that it purchased from the same property.
Example
Hilton X has 300 rooms total. Out of the 300 rooms, expedia, purchased 13. Hilton, has 287 rooms to sell. Hilton shows no availability for x date, but expedia, is showing availability of different room types on the same date.
I think closer to the date, the Hilton can "reclaim" rooms the third party channel was unable to sell.
I'm sure there is an old thread out there somewhere breaks this down in greater detail.
This is not all that unusual. I've even seen it where a hotel's sales manager couldn't get access to a room although Expedia held some.

No, this one is different.
Just select mainz, germany for 1 night with check-in on june 16th.
You will get the list with 3 hiltons, Frankfurt, Mainz and Mainz City.
Both hotels in Mainz will show no-availability.
If you select either one and press check availability on the next screen you will see that there are still enough rooms available

So it's a Hilton.com website problem in SHOWING no availability vs. actual availability?

The same thing happens at Hilton Lac Leamy in Canada. In fact, this hotel routinely shows no availability on weekends and can be booked by using the method you've described. I reported this problem to Hilton last year and just received the standard automated reply.
