OK - Need some help from you guys - Please!

We have two rooms reserved for the Moana Surfrider in August - one using points and the other using $$. I am Plat.

I checked online to see if there were less expensive rates that I currently have and found that the hotel is sold out. I called the Plat line and it was confirmed the hotel was sold out.

If I want to score an upgrade should I book at the RH or stay put? What are the chances of getting the upgrade? We are taking my partner's parents with us and I was hoping for a great suite.

What would you guys do in this situation? Thanks in advance!

Id assume that you would get what you paid for, and nothing else unless there were Cancellations later on the day of check-in. seems that the other people actually Ponied up the $$ for the suites already.

If an Upgrade is that Important youd probably want to book elsewhere. But if HNL is Full when you will be there then whats to say the the RH will Upgrade You. For a Suite you might just have to book and pay for it with $$ or pts.

If I really needed that suite I would swtich to the RH Only if at the time of Booking I can use my Pts and get a Guaranteed Upgrade. But then I believe that is to a Standard Suite.

the last time I was in hawaii I also ran into the same situation. I stayed at sheraton maui redeeming points while the hotel was completely sold out. upon arrival, however,I found out they had upgraded me to an ocean front room ^

it is in my experience that spg goes way out of their way to take care of platinum members.

I do, however, agree with the other poster that upgrades are not guranteed and running around to different properties to expect an upgrade will only lead to disappointment. so, just enjoy yourself and if you really want to wow your partner/parents, book a suite
