Starwood Preferred Guest - Sixt Car Rentals: Points not posting

I have had seven rentals with Sixt in the last 10 months or so - and the points for six of these rentals never posted to my account. For one rental, points were posted after several phone calls to Sixt - much more effort than those 250 points are worth. My SPG number is on file in my Sixt Platinum membership and I also presented my SPG card whenever I rented from a counter.

One Sixt representative expressed the opinion that my 7-digit SPG membership number would be invalid and that she could not enter that number into her system. She tried to enter it with four trailing zeros - which her system accepted - but again: no points posted.

My questions now:

- Anybody else having regular trouble with points from Sixt rentals not posting?
- If so, do you have an old Sheraton Club 7-digit membership number?

So nobody ever rents from Sixt?

Or nobody else having trouble with *points from Sixt posting?

Any input would be appreciated!

I think many people are unaware that you can get SPG points from Sixt. I only found out myself two days ago. I am renting a Sixt car on Monday, will let you know how long it takes for the points to post. I have a full 11-digit SPG number though, perhaps the results will be different.

I'm surprised that SPG hasn't sent you a new number with the new format yet.

We would not do that.

Really? How come? I seem to remember old Westin numbers being lost in the integration (not sure about Le Meridien), so why not Sheraton?

But to bring things back to something constructive, could the OP request a new account number, and if so, would it help?

Because we don't issue new numbers to members unless there are extenuating circumstances. Obviously, with any integration of a former frequent stay program, those circumstances will arise. However, we don't just do this on a whim.

I'm not necessarily sold on this being the problem. It could be, but I would need more evidence than I've seen here and it would need to be followed up with on the Sixt side of things to see if this really was a problem...and if so, why they haven't said anything about it to us up to now.

Of course, the OP could sign up for a new membership at spg.com, get a new member number, call us and ask us to combine his old account to the new one, and then go about using the new number in favor of the old one, but that may or may not solve this, so I don't know if it would be worthwhile or not.

Thanks for the clarification, William.

I'll be happy to help collect some data points in the coming months, there are a few Sixt rentals coming up...

Cheers,

Alex

You've reminded me that my wife has rented from Sixt and is yet to receive any points in her SPG account.

How did you go about it and what info did you need to provide Sixt with?
SPG number, Sixt number and confirmation number?

My Sixt points have never posted to Hilton, Hyatt or Starwood when I've hired cars from them. Call after call resulted in one being credited, but I still have a number outstanding. Like the OP said, it's really not worth the effort, so I take a view based solely on a rate difference -vs- points basis whether I rent with Sixt or someone else.

I've had nothing but troubles with Sixt delivering my points to my accounts (both Starwood and Hilton). I'd venture to say it has nothing to do with your SPG number and more to do with Sixt just NEVER posting points. They overcharged me and it took me 4 months to get them to correct that, and they finally posted my points about 5 months after my rental, and only because I had to call them constantly (they wouldn't return emails). I don't know what the problem is there, but in the future, I wouldn't rent with Sixt because the only reason I was renting with them was for the points, and it's simply not worth the time to get on them constantly for a measly 250 points.

1,) SPG Number is in my Sixt Profile (I am a Platinum member in the Sixt program)

2.) When renting online, I entered the number if there was an opportunity to do so.

3.) If stopping at a counter, I showed them the SPG card again and asked them to enter it. If using the cell phone rental activation, they asked for my loyalitiy program and I gave them the SPG data over the phone.

All to no avail. The one time I got points posted, I had to call Sixt customer service (emailing them did not lead to any result, not even a reply). I provided them with the rental date, location, invoice number (or may be rental record number, I am no longer sure which) and of course with the SPG number.

I could also provide data (rental data etc) for a few rentals in the not too distant past, if that would help.

Seeing that almost every reply indicated trouble with points posting from Sixt, I believe that there is a trend here. :td:

FWIW, I followed up with Sixt on your missing credit. They say they had the wrong account number, but have since corrected it and the points are in transit.

By the way, no one at Sixt thinks the length of your account number with us is a problem.

I am flabbergasted how they could have had a wrong account number. The correct number is in my Sixt profile, I entered it on the web site, gave it to them on the phone, they read it from my SPG card. And still, each and every time... they had the wrong account number. Impressive! ;) :D

Glad to hear that the 7-digit number is not the problem. Actually, since they seem to be overtaxed to get 7 digits right, I am glad I don't have an 11-digit-number. :D

And thanks to William for following up with Sixt on my behalf. ^
Let't see if Sixt really comes through this time!

I had also problems with points from Sixt posting automatically to my Starwood account. I had numerous emails to Sixt customer service and Sixt was in contact with Starwood. It needed several months(!) until the first points posted to my account.
I also encountered the problem that Sixt agents told me that the SPG number is not accepted in the system. Last month, another agent (at STR airport) promised to examine and come back to me by email. He then wrote an email that it is necessary to enter the number in the following format:
SWP<account number>, e.g. SWP123456789.
The points now posted several times automatically to my account after the Sixt agent had entered the number in this format (BTW, it didn't work when I entered the number in the online reservation form. The Sixt agent had the re-enter the number when I picked up the car or called the mobile service for the key collection)!!!

Sorry to bump and old thread, but I wanted to add another data point to what we have now.

Just checked my SPG account for the first time in a while, and it turns out that the points for a Sixt rental on July 8th at Düsseldorf Airport posted on August 8th - taking exactly one month to credit.

FWIW, I didn't have to follow up on them, so at least from time to time, they do seem to credit automatically.
