I'm currently sitting on two reservations at a Starwood Luxury property.

I now have enough points to cover the entire reservation. Can I just call Plat Concierge and ask them to switch the reservation to points? I'm afraid to give up the reservation at XMAS time and can't get it to book using points online.

Shouldn't be a problem , just call the plat desk. They may need to call the hotel to confirm.

Don't assume you can automatically convert them. If rooms are available, you can cancel your reservation and book an award stay with no problem. But if they are already sold out with some type of waiting list, you can't.

This has been discussed a few times here. I'm sure William will correct me (again ;) ) if I'm wrong.

The Platinum Concierge should be able to convert your reservation if rooms in the required Award room category ("Traditional" or "Standard" at some) are still available. And if you are experiencing difficulty booking online...that probably means there are no rooms available in the required standard Award booking category.

You might be able to pay some more points (if you have them) for a room in a higher category, however.

On all of this...best to call the Platinum Concierge and just inquire what your options are, if any.

Also keep in mind that if you're currently holding something like a Deluxe Non-Smoking Ocean View...that by switching to a standard award stay...you'll loose your confirmed room type preferences. Standard Award stays are basically Run-of-House, with any preferences or upgrades subject to availability upon check-in.

Good Luck! :)

1. Book new award reservation

2. Cancel old paid reservation(s)

Problem solved.

Except that the OP wrote: ...and can't get it to book using points online.
