Im a new member to Starwood and I had a question about a stay with Cash+Points. Can you upgrade using points when staying on with Cash+Points?? I read on another thread that you can only upgrade at check-in if they have rooms available. I called the 800 number and they said you cant upgrade on a cash+points stay. Im staying at the Sheraton Roma in August and I just wanted to see if it was possible.

Not in advance of check-in. Perhaps at check-in using an Instant Upgrade Award, subject to availability.

I did a search but could not find an answer to this (disclaimer for Cheap Elite ;)).
I've read it is possible to phone within 5 days of a paid stay and use points to upgrade the room, subject to availability.
I know Cash & Points are only for standard rooms, but has anyone been able to use points for a room upgrade on a C&P stay? If so, can this be done through SPG a few days before the arrival date, or would I need to contact the hotel?

I've done that before. What I did was contact the hotel directly to see if they would allow the upgrades.
