Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster. Yesterday night I was trying to get a rental car for next weekend and none of the rental car companies had good prices so I decided to try priceline. I got a car from Hertz for $15.00 + taxes which totals $25. While celebrating my winning bid, I started to think will the Collision Damage Waiver Insurance that comes with my American Express CC apply to a priceline name your own price rental. I do not own a car, so I don't have any "primary" coverage and since I didn't directly book with the rental car company, I dunno if this voids the Insurance coverage from my Amex.

I am sure I get the coverage if I book directly with Hertz. Does anyone know if I get the CDW coverage from Amex if I book through Priceline or alternatively if I book through any other site than direct with Hertz?

Thanks!

-Vince

welcome to FT. I believe you do get the CDW when you book via priceline.
but just to make sure, check the AMEX fine prints or call them up.

This is from the Q&A section of priceline:

Your accepted priceline Rental Car offer does not include any kind of insurance. If you choose to add optional insurance coverages such as Collision (CDW, LDW), Liability (SLI/EP) and Personal Accident and Effects (PAE, ESP, PAI, PEC) you will be charged additional fees over and above what you paid priceline for your rental. The fees are payable directly to the rental company and vary by the item you request and by the rental company that accepts your offer. Additional taxes, fees and surcharges will also apply.
Charges for optional items will be clearly spelled out on your rental agreement and you are often required to initial by them when you pick up your rental car. If you have questions about charges that appear on your rental agreement

As far as if you credit card will provide coverage, that's a good question as the rental company will imprint your card when you check in and bill any gas or other additional fees onto it. By doing that, I would think that it extends the credit card coverage to the rental, but I agree that only the credit card company can confirm that.

Use the same CC for BOTH the PL rental and the counter deposit and there shouldn't be a problem.
