Starwood Preferred Guest - Four Points By Sheraton Harrisonburg, VA gone?

I have noticed that a search on the spg.com website will no longer find the Four Points By Sheraton Harrisonburg, VA hotel. Strangely enough, if you search on expedia, it comes up with the same name. Did this property leave the SPG program?

Not only did it leave the SPG program, it left the Starwood family of hotels and resorts on December 1, 2005.

Mr. Lurker, perhaps you can confirm. Did the 4 points in west st louis (earth city) just disappear?

SPG is NOT missing this 4points at all! I went to college in Harrisonburg at JMU & I went down there a few times after graduating & stayed at this hotel twice (shouldn't have stayed after the first time, but I used points on both stays). The room they gave me the first time wasn't anything special & the carpet was kind of gross - but the second & last time I stayed there, the room they gave me had cigarette burn holes in the bedding & on the carpet - and the carpet was wet (literally soaked through) on the window side of the bed. I didn't notice it until the next morning - I got there around 8PM & went out with my friends in the 'burg & got back late night & went straight to bed. When I crawled out of bed the next morning, I put my feet down & the carpet on the window side of the bed was soaked through somehow. I complained the front office manager & they comped me breakfast (should have pushed it further, but it was only like 2K points for the stay). That hotel was always a dump - not sure what it is now, but it's not representative of SPG's products & its a good thing they deflagged it!

If you're going to Harrisonburg, I'd recommend either the Courtyard or the Sleep Inn (I know that Sleep Inns are generally not that great - but the had the best staff out of any Sleep Inn I've ever stayed at - it snowed when I was last time & when I woke up, the GM was outside cleaning guests cars off for them - that's service!). Wouldn't recommend the Hampton Inn - its not that great. The Jameson Inn isn't bad at all either - same level as the Sleep Inn.

If you are going for UVA graduation you better book a full year in advance. I had to stay in Charlottseville 45 minutes way just to get to graduation.

We stayed there in February for one night before checking into a condo at Massanutten. It wasn't terrific at all. They gave us an unrequested "upgrade" to a pool-side room. The room had a sliding glass door to directly access the an indoor pool. The problem is that they do absolutely NOTHING to ensure quiet enjoyment for anyone; they let the obnoxious loud people scream until the pool closes at 11. We were there with our two small kids who couldn't sleep through the yelling. I called the front desk twice and demanded that they do something about the noise. The first said she'd try to have the offenders be quiet, but obviously did nothing. The second clerk squirmed about the issue and said he couldn't really do anything, but he would be happy to change our room if we wanted. It was 10:15 by that point. We told him we would report it to the manager in the morning. Conveniently, no manager was available when we left. We turned on the loud A/C unit, and its droning roar blocked the screams mostly. No biggie, just two cranky kids all day the next day!!

AVOID at all costs.

tfong007, please do not confuse my fair alma mater with that rinky-dink school founded by that other President. :)

Yes, this hotel is no loss for Starwood. (Btw, it's now a Holiday Inn.) It was definitely on my list of the "Worst of Starwood" -- especially the "old wing" where they tended to stick Starwood guests staying on points. All the better rooms were almost always occupied.

That said, I will miss it because it was a good place to crash if you happened to be spending the weekend in or around the Shenandoah. Weekend rates in the area (especially in leaf season or when one of the nearby universities was having a football game or special event) could be surprisingly high. So the 4 points was always a bargain using points or a 50% off coupon. I'll miss this dump!

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of taking a trip to the Shenandoah. I guess I will not be staying at this *dump* :)

What a shame. This was actually a good property. The Four Points on the other side of the river in Fairview Heights, Illinois is in the middle of nowhere but is just about the best Four Points in the system.
