Im going to try one of the Rosetta Stone language programs after they were recommended on another thread. But I cant decide whether to get the DVDs or tht online subscription. Can anyone comment on the strenghts and weaknesses of each? Also, about how many hours of instructin are in the first level and do you get the same training out of the same approximate hours with the online version. Thanks for any comments.

Definitely the CDs/DVDs!

You may be a little confused (?frustrated?) when you first start, but stay with it and you'll get the hang of it. It seems dumb and useless when you first get into it, but after a while it's easy to see that the program's amazing. Good luck! :)

Reviving an old thread here to prove I really did search, LOL! :D

I'd like to know if anyone else has opinions- I'm considering the Spanish Rosetta Stone (after trying various programs, including Pimsleur, which I love, but which doesn't seem to encourage fluency, which I desire), and am curious about the CD vs. online programs. Anybody have any experience with these since this original post in 2006?

Thanks!
GG

I can't comment on DVD vs online but some of the DVD version require the DVD be in your drive when you start -- which doesn't work too well with my MacBook Air :)

If you create ISOs of them and mount the ISOs that does the job at least on a PC.

I use the online version and have done so quite happily. I did notice with slow connections that it has a little bit of hang but nothing terribly slow. On my fiber optic at home it works just fine.

With the CD's dont you have to purchase each level of the language? I can do any level of the language with the online. I think i can also just change my language on a whim - just have to call the customer care center.

So assume i'm vastly intelligent and i can learn a language decently in a month or so, then i can get 3 languages out of the 3-month subscription.
