I will spending about 5 weeks in Asia traveling to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and possibly Myanmar. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good (and cheap) air pass for the region.

And don't forget to check out Bangkok Airways' Discover Asia pass: every international flight (except for Central China) at $90, domestic at $50, and they fly to some cool places, too. The downside is you can only earn miles in their own program jpatokal Jun 8, 06, 3:03 am Forget the air passes, fly LCC -- Air Asia will takes you to all of those except Myanmar. (They don't fly to Laos either, but it's easy enough to fly to Udon Thani and cross the river to Vientiane.) AirAsia is an excellent option to most of your destinations. They are cheap and very efficient. I have only flown them domestically - Bangkok to Phuket / Surat Thani to Bangkok - 2 adults/1 child for a total of 87 USD. Nok Air, Bangkok Air/Siem Reap, Orient Thai, and Tiger are other options. Another feature of AirAsia - they fly only 737s and A319s - so you'll avoid prop planes. Thai Airways usually has great one way and sometimes r/t deals to regional destinations but typically they are published only a week or two in advance. From your post, it appears that Burma is not a priority. Not sure what you want to do there - if Rangoon is what you want - stop reading - if you want a stamp in your passport - you can go to Ranong for 2 days - enjoy the hot springs for a day and the next you can take a ferry over to the Andaman Club Casino Resort - get stamped, gamble, and eat. Just don't forget to get stamped when you come back. My son and I did and were stopped in BKK immigration before departing to US - was held for 15 minutes before it got sorted out. |
