I would like to do these two activities on the same day. I am not excited about taking a big tour bus and would be willing to hire a private guide. Do we get to both of these via boat? We are staying at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, 250 Sukhumvit Road.

Wow thats a lot to do in one day but can be done. Ayutthaya is very pretty after sundown all lit up. Please contact me on my FTemail and we will try to arrange this for you with a freind who is a guide in Bangkok.

There are boats from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, but they take all day and some of the better ones stay overnight (you sleep on the boat, that is). If you go for this, be sure to book one that stops off at Ko Kret (http://wikitravel.org/en/Ko_Kret) along the way, it's just a short distance upriver from Bangers but feels like an entirely different world.
