office int. servers working 24/7 or only during off. hours?

How can i check to see how often the internet server linked to my laptop is connected and turned on?

I use my laptop at work to download various types of files. I have a feeling my office shuts off the servers everytime they close shop. My question is how can I test my theory? I ask because I often have large files in queue (and I don't know whether the internet is connected 24/7 or only during office hours). Obviously, I'd prefer the server to be operable 24/7 so I can maximize download time, but without asking the boss (obviously), how can I test it "technically"?

do you have a vpn to the office?
if yes, get some of the internal IP addresses of those servers and then ping then after you connect via vpn.

if you have an exchange server, which I SERIOUSLY doubt is OFF during the night, then get that address and try to ping it as well.

this might be an ip address, or a url. Like, mailserver1.companyname.com or some other.

It will also be in your outlook settings, the exchange address.

While the servers may not get shut off your company may have a firewall or security policy in use that shuts down access after work hours.

i'd find it odd and rare if someone shuts the servers after office hours.

and I've been in the IT business for the most of my career.
