A couple of quick notes for the miscellaneous-info bin: after a very rocky start, I got the ear of the manager at the travel division of IBL group in Mauritius, who became very positively responsive in booking ONE travel. The only negative is that they want a wire transfer, but will allow the payment in USD (probably at midmarket rates, although I didn't check.
Another FT'er seems to have gotten good response from the BA travel shop there, so my "find" may be moot.
I also discovered just how difficult it is to get in and out of MRU from almost anywhere. BA is only 3/week, and leaves early enough to misconnect with any inbounds of interest. Too bad for that.
OTOH we'll end a trip in CMB and although the fare is higher, MRU is "more expensive" for our case. So I'm pleased to note that Dhanya's successor in the Cathay office there is even more responsive to a fare request than she was - fare and taxes (but not fuel surcharge - didn't want to frighten me off) overnight. In your eye, BA rate desk!.
