Travel Technology - Satellite Phone rental in San Francisco - advise needed

Does anyone know where I could rent a satellite phone in SF? All I have been able to find is one that I would have to pick up at SFO, when downtown would be most convenient. Husband has a spur of the moment opportunity for a rafting trip on the Rogue river in Oregon if he can get a satellite phone for a conference call that he should not miss this week. Would need to pick it up tomorrow (6/5). Thanks for any advice.

They have a rental location at the airport, but I'm not sure they have satellite phones in stock. FWIW; the phone won't work well when on the raft as you need to stay pretty stable to get a good signal and some of the trees there will block his call. If he absolutely NEEDS to take this call then he should stay home, a satellite phone won't be reliable enough.
I would agree with ScottC regarding the reliability. Most satellite phones need
to be on a stable ground and in the sight of the satellites. You may have a
problem if you are in a canyon.
If the call is urgent, try to stay in a place where you can reliably get a call.
do not rely on the satellite phone.

Thanks Scott. I was trying to find a rental location NOT at the airport, but I will call them and see if they have other locations (no answer now but I will try in the morning). Thanks for warning about coverage.

I think you'll have a very hard time finding anyone renting these phones that is not at an airport or a fedex/ups only outfit. You could always consider renting one over the Internet and having it dropped off wherever he'll be tuesday, IF of course he is anywhere with an address FedEx/UPS serve...

Thanks ScottC. Having never done this I found it hard to believe there would not be somewhere in downtown SF (one can get most anything in downtown SF), but you are undoubtedly right or an internet search would have turned up more by now. He can go to the airport; was just hoping for an easier and quicker solution.
