I just came back from an overall good experience on GF Air in F class for which i recieved a huge bundle of miles especially given their May Miles Bonus .
My doubts after reading all over their website is,
How do i book a ticket on my miles on GF air partner airlines like 9W and VS , do i have to call up GF Air offices or VS/9W partner offices and do i need miles or do i have to convert them to the redemption units in order to book a ticket on VS or partner airlines.??
it only shows the Miles credited to my account not the redemption units is that the normal way it appears on the account??
How long are the miles valid for without convering them into redemption units??
I know these are rather odd questions, but please try and help a mileage rookie.
Pls it will be the first time me or anybody in my family will be able to fly on an award ticket.
Cheers,
Karan

Hi Karan,
If you cannot get an answer here within 24hrs but need the answer immediately, why not check http://www.gulfairco.com/ffp/tickets.asp for details of redemption (miles last 10yrs, btw, and I think the conversion to redemption units is when you use them, as mileage balances remain in miles).
If you recently joined the FFP and are waiting for your S or G membership card to arrive, you can expect to get a very nice package of glossy books on almost every aspect of GF's offerings and the FFP. As an elite you are probably aware of the other benefits of this status, aside from the lounge access and baggage allowances and increased redemption flexibility.
Just check the info here and call your nearest GF FF office for more specific info.
http://www.gulfairco.com/ffp/red-changes.asp
Gulf makes a big deal of the flexibility of its FFP, so aside from the recent charging of a fuel surcharge (GF did not hedge in 05/06!), FF reemptions are, on paper, up there with the best ^. Many here may be able to help soon, if GF's info and employees don't give you what you need.

Does anyone know what fare classes GF uses for awards? Are these viewable anywhere (KVS, ExpertFlyer, etc?)

Try Z class, but I'll also check when I'm home, in case I've had anything else.
CJ and NoY might also be able to help as they are also redeeming. :)
Did you read sadiqhassan's post (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=624159)? C, D and Z class in Biz, via KVS...

Yes, GF agents confirmed to me that redemption awards (in Biz, at least) are booked into "Z" inventory. I have not actually redeemed miles - tho I too have a pile of GF miles - the aforementioned "Z" for me was the other half of a 2-1 which usese the same inventory as redemptions. Hope this helps.

Anyone knows GF redemption classes in Eco ?
Yep, u have to look for "T" !

Unfortunately i wasn´t able to confirm any VS upper class award flights out of London with my GF points yet. Thats sad cause i really like to get rid of them asap....:(
Spending them for regular GF awards is way too expensive (if not based in the GCC) but waiting for a 50%-off-spending-promo again doesnt look that promising if looking at the current mess at the company....

Hi,
I followed the redemption procedure, AA flight details and FFP# ready, with Dili, the kind and helpful person at the SYD office of GF - it is still open.
However Dili's internal GF info tells her the AA redemption is only for transatlantic flights.
I've never, ever seen such a restriction on the GF website. Have you?
Have you heard of GF redemptions on AA flights that do not involve a flight USA-LHR?
Ideally I'd take the AA flight JFK-SYD, but it's operated by a flying kangaroo and I think it must be AA metal anyway.
( Why have AA redemptions when a stupid rule is in the system that prevents GF office staff from booking them? [/rant])

Hi BB
You cannot use GF miles to fly AA to SYD. Can only be AA metal.
I used GF miles to fly F class Ottawa-Chicago-JFK so it's not only transatlantics.
I have made 5 UC award bookings on VS so far. They are classed as 'G' with VS. You can check redemption booking availability on the VS website but you need to be a member..so join(its free-I'm silver with VS already! :)) and go to booking page and click "spend miles" and it will show availability for your dates and times. When you find what you want call GF office and give them dates you found availability on so they are then able to immediately call VS office and book. It MUST be all done by GF.
The GF redemption process is cumbersome as opposed to booking with QF where its all done on line for eg.
As for VS the suites in UC are great. As is IFE. The Crew are very friendly but all over the place(if anyone saw Pam Ann's show in Sydney you will know what I mean). As for the food its TERRIBLE absolutely disgusting,,,and I'm not being harsh for a premium J product its vile. Ok yes I have been spoilt flying GF F and the chef n all but most VS UC pax complain.
The lounges are fantastic in LHR..book in for a massage, facial, hair cut or shave..enjoy the spa, steam room..AND eat before you board. Most VS lounges offer restaurant quality food on the ground but in the air they don't..go figure. On board you are offered a manicure or massage too...very welcome on a LHR-SYD sector. HKG lounge is also immacualte with service to match. There is a sit down bar on board which allows for great chats with cabin crew and /or fellow UC pax in-flight. One other bad thing u cant look out the window without neck strain....:D
Hope that helps
CJ:)

CJ, I am naughty for not updating my rant...
Dilli was checking with GF in Bahrain. On Monday phoned to confirm GF miles can be used to book AA flights 'operated' by AA. No confusion about transatlantics, now!
I wasn't expecting to be able to redeem on a 4-digit flight number (AA on QF metal) so I am wondering what is a good use of the GF miles. I
21 GF redemption units will only buy one long flight, so I want it to count.
If AA has JFK-HNL or similar, that would be best (then to SYD on QF, HA, NZ? or JQ).
I'll check with the AA crowd again, for the answer.
I think I'd not find anything else which gets us this far, on AA.
Thanks for the GF news, too. :)

I thought my Gulf Air miles lasted for 10 yrs but was told recently my account has been put on dormant status and I needed to fly in order to bring them to date. I havent flown Gulf Air in over 2 yrs. and am interested in using the miles in 2008. Is there a way around actually paying for a flight before redeeming my 50K plus miles? I always appreciate the good advice/info found here on FT. Thanx.

I haven't flown GF since FEB 07 (GF pulled out of SYD in June 07) and I have still been able to use my points for Aug 08. Perhaps you are just outside the cut off? I'm not sure where you are located or if you have any status with GF but I would write to them and ask. Lesley Britton I think is the new GF FF manager.
If you are located in a city they stopped serving I'm sure you could play that card in asking for some good will considering your past loyalty.
