The Sun and the planets have aligned, and I got bumped up to a nicer room for free at a Radisson!

I booked a regular room at Appleton, Wisconsin's Paper Valley Radisson and was given a sleep number bed room. My Gold Elite card did something new for me. Amazing!

I'm wondering if this is just superior service at one location, or some kind of corporate flip-flop on elite benefits? Since the GP Plus website doesn't mention anything new, I'm guessing the former is the case.

Well anyway, it brightened up my week. Thank you Paper Valley Radisson!

P.S., I did give the hotel props for the upgrade on the e-mail survey I received.

Very cool. ^

I haven't stayed at this hotel but might possibly be going to the area in the future. Any info on the hotel (service, facilities, rooms, etc.)??? The reviews on Trip Advisor are generally good (some are very complimentary), but it lacks some recent reviews with the most current being from December 2005.

Do you not get upgraded often??
I would say I do about 50% of the time (also Gold Elite). Although, it seems to me that getting a Sleep Number bed is pretty much the standard now days. I suppose they are moving along with the installation of them. :D
I agree that it would be nice if upgrades (based on availability, of course) were a published benefit. Indeed my upgrade success has been a bit higher with other programs. I also try and express appreciation when I get one of those e-surveys.

Congratulations ^ We applaud your good fortune.
It is more then likely a good property behaving as any good hotel should.
Taking care of it's guests.
I have been upgraded over the years at many properties as a first time guest with no program or elite status all over the world.........

Just don't expect the good folks at Radisson to take Program of the Year just yet ;)

It is arguably the best full-service hotel in the area. Let's just say that it is where the NFL teams stay when they play the Packers. I really like the location since it is in the middle of College avenue -- the main strip of restaurants/bars/nightlife of the region. Everything is within stumbling distance :)
The hotel has Lombardi's, a high-end steak house, a sports bar and a restaurant in the atrium. They also have a pool, fitness center, conference rooms, etc.
I've had a couple issues with the TVs in the room not functioning properly, but they got fixed right away. Otherwise, the rooms are reasonably up-to-date and in shape. There also is a newer concierge level with free continental breakfast and drinks & snacks in the evening. I really wish I got bumped up to that level. :(
A boutique hotel, the Copper Leaf, opened up across the street a couple years ago, so the Paper Valley's prices have become competitive.
My "plan B" hotel in the area is the Crowne Plaza. They bump me up to the executive level, but they are pretty far from the downtown part of College Ave.

I hear you on that. Thanks for the heads up on the property.
It has always been of my opinion that Radisson could be serious competition to the industry if they would stop wasting their revenue on awarding points and miles as the only way to recognize customers.
It is all about recognition first in my book

Either the company is not understanding their mission in serving guests or the wrong people are in their jobs creating loyalty.Greed or in this case miles and points drives our business to the hotels.
Recognition keeps us there ^

Radisson is a good company with some excellent folks working for it.
It has been a complete mystery to me why they don't seize the exceptional opportunities to grow revenue through lifetime value.
Not the best way for their ROI.Especially Goldpoints
The poster child of what is creating a great deal of their troubles.
The opposite of what that incentive program was set up to do........

Yeah have gold elite here. I made it this year by doing 2 weeks worth of spend at Radisson in Sydney. ;) Going to have to see what upgrades I could get with this card!

Hmm
Im in the Radisson Prague. Its overall nice, but checkin wasn't anything special. Never got any welcome fruit or water, or a welcome gift (for the royal club room). Still a tad confused on how it says free pay tv, yet it asks if I want to charge it to the room (doesnt matter as I dont have time to watch it) No room upgrade or even a mention with rack rate. No mention of 1 free express laundry. I got both USA and Europe Gold, so a tad lost.
Also, I got 2 rooms. Can I claim 1 room on the USA card and other on the Europe one?

I'd ask the front desk manager what benefits you are entitled to.

I did this morning, she gave me a RZGP little pamphlet and thats really it. I switched the rooms to the USA one. Heck, with over 5K GPP per room/night I renewed my status for the USA one. The Radisson Edwardian in London upgrades me on the USA one, but after seeing the requirements for the Europe one, I'd think I would get better service.
I mean the hotel is very nice and the room is also nice, but I got a lot better treatment in other hotels.
