Hello there
Would anyone know of the new Sofitel Grande Sukhumvit which opened in the last week . It is located, I believe 2mins walk from Nana BTS, Soi 6 and apparently minutes away from the Queen Srikit Convention Centre.
The building consists of 2 towers and I feel it is a former apartment block[maybe like the Centre Point style apartments ].

Opening rate is Aud $98 ,normally stay at the Sheraton and have tried the Sofitel Silom which was has the worst pool one could imagine ,generally smart rooms, etc but not to the standard I wanted.
If anyone is in BKK at the moment and knows the new hotel and thinks it would be OK I would love to hear your opinions.
Always interested to try new properties. Thanks.

I don't think it is opened yet, but they are getting close to opening. It looks like the lobby has some furniture in it, as of yesterday, and I've seen dozens of people in the area wearing the property's polo shirts ("arrive" -Fr.) presumably in training. I think I read it is supposed to be a combination hotel, serviced-apartment, long-stay type place?

Sukhumvit Soi 6 runs between Sukhumvit Road and Sukhumvit Soi 4, making a 90 degree right turn, so this new Sofitel is a 2 min. walk from the Nana BTS. "Minutes away from the Queen Sirkit Convention Centre" seems a stretch, maybe a 15 - 20 min. walk. The building is visible in the neighborhood, and from the BTS station, as it is ~ 30 floors, in a distinctive light salmon color, with white trim. It was a smaller building of some sorts that was expanded upwards greatly.

The location is far enough away from the night-life (although there are a few beer-bars at the end of soi 6 where it meets soi 4) so as not be a negative, and the proximity to the BTS is a plus. Taking a taxi to/from the property may require some patience. I'll have a closer look one of these days and report back.

Thank you very much transpac,
Nowadays I am in bkk once a month, sometimes twice, and the hotel bills even though miniscule compared to the rest of the world, still add up. Sofitel have a good name, and the other main advantage would be "2 minutes to Nana". Now that you descibe the building, I am sure i have seen it. If you do have a closer look one day, please post, I enjoy this forum as relaxation and as a learning tool, and i tend to gravitate to it after a hard day, so I would always catch your reply.
