Air Canada Aeroplan - Possible to get on Later Flight?

Hey,
I have a flight booked to Thunder Bay for next week, and my return itinerary is YQT-YWG-YYZ-YZR. My connection in YWG is only 25 mins, but in YYZ it is 5 hours. I have never been to Winterpeg and would like to check it out if I had the chance, so I was wondering, if I asked at the gate in YWG, would there be any chance AC would allow me to switch to a later flight out to Toronto? That way, I could see the city and I wouldn't have to wait as long at a familiar airport. I am booked in economy through Aeroplan... any thoughts?
Thanks for the help,
Dustin

What is the fare class that you are travelling?
In other words,
Tango: pay $150
Tango-Plus: pay $30
Any other ticket: they can do it.

It is also, of course, subject to space availability on the later flight. Does one not also have to pay the fare difference between the fare purchased originally and the lowest available fare class?

I wasn't aware there was a difference in fare classes, as it is a reward flight, but according to ac.com it is "W". I assume this means "big bucks to change"? :p

Not on changes at the airport on day of travel. www.aircanada.com/en/news/oneway/index.html
Don't know about award tickets.

Technically for award tickets you're only allowed to standby for earlier flights. Used to be free same-day standby, and honestly I can't figure out why they made this small but for some of us punitive change. In practice, however, I have found agents sometimes to be flexible on the standby issue as long as it's same day. (Or at least they used to be. Haven't book an AP reward ticket for a while since this change added to the skyrocketing fees made them so unattractive.)
Given your scenario I would think if you explained you prefer to have the layover in YWG rather than YYZ and if there is room and if you ask nicely you would have a reasonable chance of success. You'd leave and get in at the same time; just the site of layover would be different. You're not checking luggage, are you? If so, they might be reluctant.
If all else fails it is certainly "legal" to ask to get on an earlier flight out of YYZ and reduce the layover there.
Can you change routing at the airport on a reward ticket? Or at least ask? I know in order to get free flights you have to do some strange routings sometimes, and probably couldn't get on the yqt-yyz flight, but 5 hours at yyz? Ugh. I'd rent a car at yyz and end up home 3 hours earlier.

i would assume you could for later flights. agents have the ability to not charge you, but don't act as if (or mention to them that) they can. please.
i am highly doubtful on changing the routing on reward.

Thanks for the info guys. I will ask AC if they can help but I won't get my hopes up.
