Thanks in advance, I'm going to be staying in Fairfield for a number of months and am curious about this property. I acustomed to staying at Hiltons, Doubletrees and ES. All my HGI stays have left me wondering why I paid full price when I could have stayed at a Hampton for about $50 less.

Hamptons are great; I love the consistency. I prefer the HGI. If you're staying for awhile, I'd give Homewood Suites a go--assuming it's convenient for you. When I have to travel for a week or more, I really like Homewood Suites.

Thanks.... I think? Are you in any way commenting on my request, which was about properties in Fairfield, CA. Were you commenting on these, or just properties in general?

This place is way overpriced, sits in a parking lot of Best Buy type stores along Interstate 80. There is a rather nice, high priced Hampton nearby. Lots of gov't places nearby that support these hotels and they get a decent rate.

I have stayed at a Hampton Inn in Napa Valley and the HGI in Fairfield. Like many stays, I don't recall details of either, which means nothing went wrong; each was up to par. If there is a Homewood Suite that's convenient, I always use that chain if I have to stay more than four or five days--unless it's a full Hilton!

Typical cookie-cutter HGI, with rates that are way out of whack for the area. No more Hampton in Fairfield (converted to Comfort Inn), but a great Hampton about 10-15 minutes east in Vacaville. Fairly new property, much lower rates.

Bummer about the Fairfield Hampton.

I stay at the Hampton in Vacaville regularly (home town, stop in to visit family). It is pretty nice for a Hampton and has friendly staff. It can sometimes be overrun with kids -- lots of athletic teams seem to stay there for tournaments and the like. But it has never been noisy after 9-10 pm or so.

I have stayed at Fairfield HGI a couple of times when the VV Hampton was sold out. The staff was very friendly and trying to please, and they put elites on the backside of the hotel away from the freeway -- yes, it is directly next to Interstate 80 and could be extremely noisy if you are on that side. If you stay there, be sure to request a room on the other side. The HGI property is fairly new and clean but, as another poster mentioned, it is in the middle of a shopping mall. That could be good or bad, depending on your perspective. No atmosphere whatever, but several decent (tho certainly not haute cuisine) dining choices are within walking distance, and there's a movie theater, stores, a Barnes and Noble bookstore, etc., if you have some time to kill. All in all, not a bad place to stay, but don't expect fancy or atmosphere or fine dining choices (actually, I'm not sure there is such a thing as "fine dining" in Fairfield ;) ). Certainly, Hilton or DT or ES it is not.

Edited to Add: I forgot to mention that, if you are considering staying at the Vacaville Hampton, there are even fewer dining choices available than in Fairfield and none within walking distance. An Outback Steakhouse and a local restaurant, Merchant & Main, are my personal suggestions.

My sincere condolences.

Well, at least Napa isn't TOO far away. And there are a couple of nice (not fancy) small wineries in the Green Valley area of Fairfield. I'll try to get more info about them from my brother. There's always the Jelly Belly factory :) and the Budweiser brewery :D in town.

This, too, will pass.

Priceline will give you 4-star Renaissance Club Sport in south Concord or north Walnut Creek (near the Pleasant Hill BART station) for $61+$10 fees on weekends. On-street parking is ample on weekends. It's outstanding, worth more than double the price.

I'm not sure about winning bids for weekdays. This location would be a good reverse commute from Fairfield. PM me if you need more, info including how to get multiple bids due to this being the only 4-star Priceline offering in the East Bay.

Unless big4consultant is paying out of his own pocket, it might not be a good idea to stay at Concord/Walnut Creek area & commute to Fairfield (at least 30 miles one way), yes the morning commute is relatively smooth, but the traffic during afternoon peak hour could get ugly sometimes. For a weekend trip to Wine Country, I'd recommend the V. Sattui Winery (http://www.vsattui.com/). It is one of the friendlier vineries in the area. Try their 2002 Preston Cabernet & Madeira.
