United Mileage Plus - I was allowed to book Air Canada flight on a 15K award

I was just allowed to book an Air Canada flight on a 15K award. I was assured by two agents that this was legitimate, one of whom spent some time checking the rules. I'm still bemused, as the email from Uhited says:

Short Haul Saver Awards Available for 2006
Effective immediately, and for the remainder of 2006, Mileage Plus is offering the popular Short Haul Saver Awards, which enables Mileage Plus members to take short trips (for example, Chicago–Washington Dulles or San Francisco–Seattle) using up to 40 percent fewer miles. Flights up to 700 miles each way on United, United Express® and TedSM within the 48 contiguous states and between the U.S. and Canada qualify.

If this truly is the policy, this could broaden the opportunities to fly into Canada on routes that are often quite expensive.

Did you book on a UA flight # operated by AC or did you get an AC flight # too?

Very interesting. How did you get to booking over the phone anyway? I was told it had to be online. What was the routing?

I booked online UA/UA. About a week later, I called to move the outbound flight forward. The next earlier UA flight was unavailable, so I was offered the AC flight. The routing is ORD-YYZ RT.

That is good news as I approach the 30K mark w/UA. My primary program is Aeroplan so, the whole family can go somewhere!

this would be great, as it makes the 15k shorthaul award much more useable for the Northeasterners. ;)

On united.com?

I thought that united.com ALWAYS gave UA flight numbers. I thought it was unable to give *A flights, and that's why people have to call.

Read his other post.. he booked all UA flights, than had the ticket changed and was given the option of an AC flight.
