If I am running late, my metro arrives at WFC, but I've just missed the Flyer bus...
Are there usually taxis waiting that I can take? If not can anyone recommend a reliable dispatch number?

There are often cabs waiting, but not always. They're on the other side from the exit for the Flyer Bus. Instead of turning left after passing thorugh the faregates, they would be to the right, around the Kiss-and-Ride dropoff point, if I remember correctly. One of the locals cab companies I've used frequently is Red Top Cab, phone number 703.522.3333. Unlike several other companies, Red Top does accept credit cards.

I've found Washington Flyer taxi to have the most reliable service to IAD, but they do not pick up from the West Falls Church metro for some reason (possibly to avoid competing with their co-owned bus?) Yellow Cab of Fairfax County tends to have the most cabs at WFC, and they do accept credit cards. I've taken them when I didn't have time to wait for the next Washington Flyer, and the metered fare to IAD is about $40 one-way.
At that price, if you know you're going to miss the next bus, you're better off getting off at East Falls Church and hopping in a cab there, as from West Falls Church there's no direct access for private cars to the Dulles access road (you have to go through several slow traffic lights on local streets to get there if in a cab). East Falls Church is right near an entrance ramp to I-66, which all in all should be a faster ride to IAD but probably an extra $5-10 fare.
