Obviously fighting back at B6. Good decision, but poor choice on deciding to use the CRJ900s.

On a related note, does anyone know how long it's been since US has flown from JFK? I know its been LGA and EWR for quite a few years now.

I wonder why US is not starting the service until a few months after jetBlue begins it. Also, US obviously does not mention it is for competitive purposes - rather to feed Star Alliance connecting customers to other countries, which does make sense. But, US is adding extra capacity that is not really needed. Perhaps jetBlue will have an international alliance by that point.
The last mainline was a weekly Saturday flight to MCO. I believe that ended somewhere around the time MetroJet was started. Before that the last Express flights were to DCA only and operated as a connection to Concorde, which ended when the BA relationship ended

The HP side of US has been operating from JFK to PHX and LAS since at least the early 1990s. I assume the new US service to CLT will be run from HP's (now US's) location at JFK T7.
. . . But, US is adding extra capacity that is not really needed. . . .
If JFK-CLT is "extra capacity that is not really needed," then why is jetBlue starting the service?

Don't all airlines start / end / change services "for competitive purposes"? Do all jetBlue press releases announcing starting / ending / changing services mention it is is "for competitive purposes"?

This route does not help anyone from the Mid-Atlantic or N.E. Who wants to back track.
Does anybody know US Airways which terminal at JFK? I don't know which terminal will use in terminal. Can you anyone find out for info about US Airways to JFK. Thanks!

As was mentioned above, this route does nothing for anyone north or west of CLT. It's to respond to B6, pure and simple.
And on CRJ900s, it's a half-baked response.

As I mentioned above, US will be joining HP's exisiting operation in JFK terminal 7. Check the HP website for US/HP JFK info.

What will B6 be using, Airbus? I realize US is trying to defend its turf with this move, but is it worth the costs? Given many New Yorkers prefer LGA/EWR over JFK, wouldn't it be better for US to increase frequency and lower its fares on those routes instead? Is there enough O/D demand to support CLT-JFK? I doubt there will be too many people west and south of CLT willing to connect at CLT to get to JFK (many other better options), especially on a RJ.

Jetblue will use E-190s, which are a world above the CRJ900. Some might argue that they are a better ride (or the -170 varient, anyway) than either airline's Airbus coach product (I don't--you cannot fit a roller wheels-in on the -170 or -190).
That said, I've always wondered why US did not run a few a day from PIT/CLT/PHL/DCA in the afternoon to feed the Star carriers at JFK. If the economics don't make that worthwhile, then why run CLT-JFK in the first place? Do what they are going to do when B6 gets to PIT--lower the LGA fares and move on.

Totally agree. They really should have put the A-319 on the route to give them some type of an edge with FC.

I was referring to US flights only, which as someone pointed out, ended in the 1997 timeframe when MetroJet got its start.

jetBlue is starting the service because just as Mr. Neeleman stated:
"Charlotte, as the nation's second largest banking region, and Raleigh-Durham's 'Research Triangle' have natural ties to New York, but until now, the people of North Carolina have overpaid for sub-standard service," said JetBlue CEO David Neeleman. "With four round-trips a day to New York, JetBlue's 10,000-plus crewmembers hope to change that for North Carolinians by bringing our award-winning customer service and low fares to Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham."

Yes, I figured you were only referring to US East. However, just think, when we're all one big happy family, US can claim to have never left JFK -- since HP (now as much "US" as the old US) never surrendered that station.
