InterContinental Hotels: Priority Club & Inter-Continental Ambassador - Free weekend nts questions
Dear all, I know this subject might have been asked before, but... need confirmation. I am going to join the Ambassador club/search for a RA referral as soon as this matter is settled.
Going to brother's wedding in the Mark Hopkins and we need to stay there from 7/14-16.
If I am to use the free weekend coupon for one of the nts, what will the result be if:
1. I book a club access room. Will I get club access on the free night?
2. I don't book a club access room, but pay the 30$ access fee, will I still get the club acess on the free night?
3. I book a suite (terrance/corner), what will the upgrade be for a AMB? what will be the upgrade for a RA? Will the free weekend coupon has any effect on the upgrade?
4. My dad use my free weekend coupon instead of me, will he still be offer 30$ club access?
Thanks in advance for any insight!

1. You shouldn't but you might through a mistake
2. No
3. Upgrades vary based on availability. At the MH I once got a 2 room suite that was very angular and had a nice view of an airshaft. I would have preferred a regular room with a nice view on a high floor. Use of BOGO shouldn't impact upgrade.
4. You have to be an AMB to use the BOGO cert. They are pretty good at applying/enforcing this rule. Give your dad your PC card and a credit card and let him check in as you. Then when he checks out have him use his own card to pay. Then he gets the AMB benefits, and you get the points. ;)
Edited to add- I didn't realize you were of the fairer gender. Still try to get the room in your name for the reasons cited- if you can't be there to check in with him have him tell the clerk you are arriving later. If you are in the hotel in a different room AMB benefits are only supposed to apply to one room so figure out which room will get you the best benefit and make that "your" room.

Well, my experience at the IC Berlin is:
1. Yes, benefits for the first (paid) night, will also apply for the free night
2. Yes, they actually change/raised the room-rate for both nights with the €50 per night for lounge access. The only difference is that you pay the second night with your cert instead of money.

1. You shouldn't but you might through a mistakeI would disagree with that. IME, the facilites of the paid night are almost always extended for the 2nd (Free) night too.
Even if you book the presidential suite for 2 wknd nights and use the cert, you wouldn't be asked to downgrade on the 2nd night!

I don't have one handy but the T&C of the BOGO cert explicitly refer to the free night only including the room (or suite), and not services such as breakfast, massages, or club access. That said I agree that there is a likelihood that through benign neglect this aspect of the T&C may be overlooked in practice. There are threads on this issue if you are up for a search.

There are threads on this issue if you are up for a search.I know. But I can't really be bothered. ;) I've been using these certs since they were the 6CC renewal certs, and I've always been given club access on the 2nd night if I booked a club room. Obviously YMMV. :)
Thanks everyone...
I think I will book the suite in my name, add the club acces and let my parents use the room. I will stay in their "regular" room instead, for which the city escape rate for the regular room is 249$ with 2 full breakfast, parking (51$$$$) and late check out for a classic room. It isn't so bad at all.
BTW, what will be the next upgrade of a corner suite?
