Hilton HHonors - SLC Airport: Hilton vs Hampton Inn
I am trying to decide which property to stay at on an upcoming trip to SLC. I will arrive at 10:30 pm and have an 8:30 am flight the next day. I know some people have not been happy with the Hilton but have not heard much about the Hampton.
Which property would you stay at?

I stayed at the Hampton a year or so ago - not long after Hilton took over the property from Sheraton (the old logos were still on the phone instruction cards beneath the plastic plate); the staff were very nice, and the property was a typical Hampton, neither better nor worse than others.

I like that Hilton, but I haven't stayed at the Hampton Inn, so I can't compare.

For that short of a stay I probably wouldn't care, to some extent. But that Hilton is one of my favorite properties, I love the location, the lounge, the pool, the jogging trail around the lake...curious to know what issues people have had with the place! The only negative I have with it is the slightly high price of beer in the bar! :)
I like the SLC airport Hilton. Since I usually arrive on a weekend they give me coupons for a free drink and appetizer in the bar ... er ... club. I've not stayed at the Hampton, though.

Go with the price. You will be there for less than 12 hours. The Hampton would have free internet. Breakfast? That early all you want is a coffee to go. Both have shuttles, you may want to check that.
Thanks for the info gang. Much appreciated.

Hilton is nice, simple, easy from the airport. Only thing I don't like is the $11 buffet - not that good. Dinner at the restaurant is ok though. Not sure about VIP amenities, was not a gold/diam when I stayed there.

We stayed at the Hilton in summer of '04. Thought it was a tired looking
building and the room sort of reflects that. No breakfast or special
amenities. No restaurants withing walking distance, if I recall. The view
of the "lake" was pretty though. I definitely would go for the price if I
had to pick between the two. We've had good experience with Hampton
in general, though.

There were a few restaurants nearby; I had dinner at one a couple of minutes' walk from the Hampton; however, staying at the Hilton itself you likely weren't aware of them given the layout of the area - a corporate complex on the edge of the desert, with the Hilton nearer the "entrance" and the Hampton at the other end.
