This just in... CONDE NAST the absolute authorities in first class travel have just named their "best new hotels in the World for 2006" (May 2006 - US Edition). I am listing some of their picks for Thailand. Some of these places are simply out of this world (both in terms of setting and price.) Fortunately for the rest of us who don't have 800USD to blow on a hotel room, CN were sweet enough to include a few recommendations that may just be within our reach... drum roll... ladies and gents here they are:

Chiang Mai: http://d2hotels.com/

Krabi: http://sarojin.com/

CN Traveler (not the UK edition which would be Traveller) publishes both a "best" list and a "hot" list. "Hot" does not necessarily equate with "best."

Notice that in the "hot" list, neither the Pen or MO are included. These two hotels are considered two of the "best" in BKK.

Unfortunately - the Sarojin is not in Krabi! It is in Khao Lak - a nicer location in my opinion!

Surprised both Mandarin Oriental's Dhara Dhevi or the newer Aman resort did not make the list.
