Hilton HHonors - Anyone stay at the Hampton Inn Corpus Christi-Padre Island yet?

I will be in the Corpus Christi area for a high school reunion in July. One of the functions is being held on the beach in Padre Island (north NOT south Padre) just south of Corpus Christi. Since they will be serving alcohol, I was thinking of staying the night in a hotel there instead of in downtown Corpus Christi. (Will be at the Omni the second night were the actual reunion is being held). So far I have found the Holiday Inn Sunspree and the Hampton Inn Corpus Christi - Padre Island to be within 2 miles of the beach function. Hilton web site doesn't show any pictures of the hotel so I was wondering if anyone had stayed there yet since it is a new hotel. Also noticed it is a Cat. 5 for reward stays!! Crazy for a Hampton. I am thinking that it should be a very nice place considering the reward category and the fact that it is new but any info is appreciated.

Unfortunately I haven't stayed there, but have driven by it several times. It looks nice from the outside, like a typical Hampton Inn. I'm suprised that it is a Category 5 though. I have stayed at the Holiday Inn SunSpree. It is an older property, but right on the beach. The Hampton Inn is on the road heading out to the beach, across from Farrah's (if you are familiar with the area).

I saw it under construction then open during Spring Break if I remember right....Since it is so new and much closer to the beach areas (JP Luby surf park and the National Seashore of North Padre Island)......much higher prices and will get more wear-n-tear too I'm so sure.

When I saw the prices...I flipped back to my old standard - the ES on SPID - place has been there forever but well maintained and nice for a super old ES property.

A better alternative IMO is the Homewood Suites which is probably less that 5 minutes farther inland than the ES and is only a couple of years old. ("Super old ES" is right).
