"Previously committed to growing with a fleet of Airbus 320s seating 156 passengers, JetBlue now says it will sell two to five of its 89 A320s and defer deliveries of 12 more. Because high fuel prices have a big impact on its long-haul routes, the carrier wants to reduce flights from its hub at New York's Kennedy to Florida and the West Coast.

Instead, it will focus on expanding short-haul routes, such as New York to Charlotte, N.C., with Embraer 190s seating 100 passengers. "

Interesting discussion on Jetblue and comparison of fleet type issues with other airlines.

Old news, but I think that it is a wise move, at least for the current state of the economy, the airline industry and jetBlue. For some reason, some think that the 12 deferred A320 deliveries means the aircraft will never be delivered to jetBlue - all it means is that for now, they will be delivered at a later date (in this case, around 2012 instead of 2007-2009).

Selling the 2 and possibly up to 5 older A320s currently in service will help cut MX costs and keep the already young average age of the fleet low.
