Checked into the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh on Monday with a work colleague. Her reservation is linked to mine (I'm Plat). Very nice receptionist checks me in, offers me choice of amenity and says I have nice river view room on SPG floor. Then turns to my colleague, who has no status, and does a couple of taps on the computer keyboard .. and says "you've been upgraded to the 'Riverview Suite'" or some similar name :eek:. We meet up later in the lounge and she says suite is huge with two TVs .. big enough to lose her hubby and two kids in!! lol We're stayed just the one night before moving on. C'est la vie!

Same thing happened to me at the Calgary Eau-Claire. I get what I reserved, my no status travelling companion gets upgraded. I made a comment to the front desk staff asking why status didn't matter - they said of course it does, we guaranteed you the room you reserved, he had no guarantee so we had to give him a suite. :rolleyes:
Been back to Calgary several times since, I will sleep on a park bench before I give that hotel 1 penny of my money.

I've had this happen to me but only when I check in after the other guests.
If I check in first, I've always received the better room.

Had this happen to me a few weeks ago at a Sheraton that I've stayed at about 15 times this year. Checked in around 6pm and told that the club floor was closed that day for roof repairs and I was given a regular room on an SPG floor. Colleague with no status checked in around 10 (I was standing at the front desk) and was told, we've upgraded you to our deluxe sweet on the club floor. Saw the room the next morning- it had 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, jacuzzi, etc.

Yes- I have also had this happen. I told a colleague of mine to be sure and sign up for SPG as we had a lot of upcoming trips to Shanghai and were staying at the Westin and the St Regis. So- first trip- we are not advised on check in- he gets a very nice suite- I have a regular room. He was thanking me for getting him involved in the "wonderful upgrade program" :) Anyway- right now I am at the Holiday Inn and got a great upgrade to a corner room :)

How about naming the offending property so the rest of us can be sure to avoid it in the future?

Yes, please share the info, it'd be helpful to everybody. Here's my 2 cents;
I'm Platinum and the hotels with excellent upgrades, service etc. are the Sheraton on the Falls (Niagara Falls - Canada), Westin Prince (Toronto), St.Regis (DC), Sheraton Towers (brussels), Sheraton Towers (tel-aviv), W New York (on lexington ave.), Sheraton Park Lane (london), Sheraton Bal-Harbour,and Aladdin (l.vegas).
The worst (never an upgrade + weak on service) are;
W Montreal, Sheraton Towers-NY(7th/53rd), and Sheraton Delfina Santa Monica (california). All the other's I stay at are hit or miss, depending on the season / occupancy, etc.

Since I've dropped to gold this year, I'm 100% on suite/club floor upgrades (2 stays). Really strange. My Platinum average was dismal.
