Is a taxi the only reasonable method of getting to the Westin Waltham from Logan Airport? I will be staying there for one night in July and it's my first trip to the area. Was wondering if there's any sort of convenient rail/subway link between the airport and Waltham area. If not, what would cab fare cost between those two locations? Was also wondering what amount of time I should budget during morning rush to get back from the hotel to the airport. Thanks in advance for any advice.

There is a train that goes from Boston to Waltham, but I don't think it is convenient for you in this scenario. The "Commuter Rail" leaves from North Station and arrives in downtown Waltham. You'd have to take the Blue Line from Logan airport and transfer at Park Street to the green line. And then when you get to downtown Waltham. What then?

Ideally, I would a reccommend renting a car. However, if that's not an option for you then perhaps, you could hire a car service. The thing is that I suspect that a taxi may end up costing nearly as much as a car service. However, if you do decide to go with a taxi, I highly reccommend:

Veterans Taxi
(617) 527-0301
(617) 527-0300
175 High St
Waltham, MA 02453

I'm sorry I can't help you with commute times from Waltham into Boston in the morning. But if it were me, I would probably depart Waltham 3 hours prior to the flight departure for a domestic flight. For some that may be too conservative and for others too risky. YMMV.

PS. Have fun in Waltham. Check out the restaurants on Moody Street in downtown Waltham, grab a beer and play pool at Corner Pocket in North Waltham, or go for an easy hike in Prospect Hill Park to Boston Rock (not very far from your hotel).

Renting a car is likely to be cheaper than taxi. I would stay away from car service. It is likely to cost you a lot more than taxi and not be as convenient. While you could do it with public transportation at some times of the day (bus, to train, to train, to train, to bus), it would be a real PITA.

Thanks for the advice. Given that the cost of renting a car and staying at the Waltham (where there have been a few less than stellar reviews) is about identical to staying at the brand new Westin Harborview...I decided to try out the Harborview instead...much closer to the airport as well.

Defintely let us know how the stay goes! If you decide otherwise, just keep in mind that if you stay in Waltham is VERY easy to get to from Logan --> 90 west to 95 North.

Enjoy your stay

FYI,

For taxi from Logan to Westin Waltham, count on a fare of +/-$45.00 each way, more with traffic.

New Westin is very close to fn district and 3 mi. west of airport on I-90. Hope it opens on schedule for you!

Will do. Am quite excited about trying out the Harborview...looks like it's going to be fantastic. Am just hoping that they'll upgrade a lowly gold from a garden/cityview room to at least harborview room

I'm not sure how much of a harborview you can get from here, as there are a few other buildings between this location and the harbor - but it should have a great view of the Boston skyline. I was just at the new Convention Center and I hope they will have the hotel ready by July - seems like they still have aways to go. This area in South Boston has really sprung up in the past 5 years or so, but also be aware you are not in "downtown" Boston but a short distance away from areas like the Common and Faneuil Hall.

Good luck at the Harborview, but just for future reference, I live in Newton right off I90(the pike) and it takes me 18 min to Logan, 30min if there is traffic. But then again I have a fast lane so I breeze through the tolls. The Westin in Waltham is another 12 min from my house. So all in all I would estimate from Waltham to Logan it would be 35-45 min. including traffic.

Enjoy your trip.
