I am planning an extended stay in BKK the end of May from New York City, and have about 80lbs of clothing in 3 cartons I want to ship Surface Parcel Post which usually takes 4-6 weeks to arrive. Problem is I will be in Phuket and several of the other beach regions for the 1st 4 weeks, and have no long term address in Bangkok as of yet to label the cartons for shipping.
I know the GPO in BKK does hold letters and small parcels addressed to General Delivery 'Poste Restante' for up to 90 days, but I was wondering if anyone knows if they also hold cartons of that weight...otherwise any other suggestions would be appreciated.

It might easier, cheaper to just buy a couple of extra bags and bring this stuff as checked baggage, then store it somewhere in Bangkok.
Otherwise I'd suggest getting a post office box in Bangkok, or one at a Mail Boxes etc., and then ask a friend in the U.S. to hold, then ship your parcels once you have the address here. Expect some possible hassles when picking up your parcels, in the form of extra duty (tax), payable through both official and unofficial channels.
Maybe have a look or post in the Bangkok forum on forum.thaivisa.com ?

it might be even cheaper and less of a hassle to just buy new clothes in country... While I was there last month, I took one backpack and bought clothes as needed and a $3 duffel bag to haul the stuff back home. I'm still wearin some awesome $4 sneakers I bought at the Big C...

The clothes that I use at home are mroe or less useless in Thailand, unless you sit 24 hrs in an aircon room. You can buy nice T-shirts for about 3-4$ and get a suit tailormade for 100 (in case you need that). So why bring extensive luggage? Jeans go for about 10$, but you may want shorts instead.
