This last weekend I stayed at a hotel in Palm Springs that had wifi. That was fine and dandy but when I'd go to use my cell drop drop drop call or the person on the other end would tell me I was cutting out. This only happend at the hotel and didn't happen in the downtown area or any where else in the desert. And if it matters most of the calls were made outside on my patio of the hotel and not so much inside the room. Could the wifi have messed with my calls on my phone?

no, totally different frequencies / bands.

Most likely the hotel was just in a cell tower deadspot.

If it was a high-rise hotel: sometimes the nearest tower is on the hotel's roof. Even on a balcony, the structure might interfere with the signal.
But you said "patio," so perhaps not a high-rise.
