I am dissapointed, but hoping for pointers to make it back to Gold or Diamond quickly. Does Hilton have the equivalent of a "challenge" I can sign up for. I heard of a Gold fast track, but no idea how to sign up for one.

Also, I just noticed that the hotels are fairly inconsistent in the upgrade/downgrade policy

Marriott extended my status

Starwood moved it to Gold from Platnim

Hilton has now given me Silver from Platinum

Can anyone explain that?

Thanks for all your assistance

I'm guessing you didn't stay enough to requalify for Hilton Diamond.

Maybe if you want Diamond, start racking up those stays! ;)

When I dropped from Gold to Silver, they threw in a "fast track back to Gold" in the letter.. but I suspect that is not the typical policy.

Some companies provide a "soft landing" - on AA, you can not lose more than one status rung. On Hilton HHonors, you can fall back to "HHonors Blue" if you have no / little qualifiying activity in a year's time. If that is so and you have not received any offer, call and see if they will make you one - or start booking more Hilton family property stays, to be sure you earn status.

Cheers.

I think the key here is to keep in mind that these are "loyalty" programs. I can't even conceive of trying to keep top status with three different chains (what it seems like from the OP's original statement). I would first decide which one or two programs will get the bulk of your stays. Then, call, and explain just that: you intend to concentrate your stays with them. And, ask what they can do to get back to top tier as quickly as possible.

To the OP-Do you have a Hilton Amex? If so, and you charged at least $20,000 on it last year, you should call AMEX and request to be upgraded to Gold-all such requests need to go through AMEX, not Hilton.

Question: is there a formal mechanism by which you go about making this request mid-year? Whenever I've called Amex and asked a question about HHonors, they've pretty much responsed with "Whaaaaa? Call Hilton!"

And has anyone ever proactively made a request for the oft-discussed 6-months-over-$2500 Diamond upgrade?
