Hyatt or Embassy Suites are ok. A new Brazilian restaurant Agoura Churrascurria (sp?)is very good, reasonable for all you get - huge wonderful salad bar & unlimited meats off the skewer Brazilian-style. I love their doughy cheese balls!! It grosses me out, but lots of people enjoy the Melting Pot for fondue overload. Lots of interesting Vietnamese, Korean & Japanese restaurants at corner of Jeffrey & Walnut if you're into that.

Check out Chowhound.com & do a search for Irvine & you'll get lots of rec's.

As far as hotels go, I'd recommend the Milton on MacArthur or the Doubletree on Hutton.

It has a bridge which crosses over to the South Coast Plaza Mall with many up scale shops and restaurants, including Troquet (Tim and Liza Goodell). Pinot Provence (Splichal) is located within the hotel and is ood. It is an easy drive to the coast where you can find many interesting restaurants.

Zagat could also give you good restaurant choices and descriptions.

Second this. I do a lot of business in Irvine and I ALWAYS stay at the Westin South Coast Plaza and I ALWAYS walk across the bridge for my dinner! Especially Claim Jumper, right at the end of the footbridge. Also next to it is ZTejas. I hear the Indian restaurant across the parking lot is outstanding.

If you stay at the Westin, I'd go up the street to Memphis (cool, laid back, good food & music); Habana (Cuban); Aire (hot new place where all the young hotties go for tapas - also serve dinner); Onotria - for wonderful Country Italian; Oki Doki for eclectic, cheap & very popular Asian; for sexy, Chat Noir is hot hot hot; and... there's a Japanese restaurant in the Antimall behind Memphis that's supposed to be excellent & a lot of fun. We have better restaurants in OC than chains & at the Westin, you're in the heart of them!
