Asia - Shanghai-need help-big time!

I have just read and down loaded "One lunch and dinner in shanghai".
Hi, It's been a long time since I've been somewhere, I haven't been before and in late May, it will Shanghai for 10 nights. I am SPG,HH, and a site recommended the new Westin, any thoughts, anything you think is exceptional under US250. The restaurants sound as if they will blow me away, love local food, love shopping, love walking all day, eating well, a walk after dinner, and the cot by 9.30pm. I have to do one day work and i plan to prebook some appointments. I buy homewares, giftware, silks, jewellery, and I usually do this out of BKK. Would love to hear your recommendation as this time, I think i would prefer to predominately "window shop" before I come back to seriously buy. Any suggestions on "must see" markets would be appreciated, also i have heard it's hard to get around everywhere, what's the best way? (In BKK, Ive mastered the skytrain/taxi/ferries). thanks 3131

Have you looked on the Trip Advisor Shanghai Forum? There are several expats who are more than happy to answer questions. There is also a good bit of existing info there which should answer some of your questions, so do a search. We leave on the 3rd, and I've pretty much run out of questions to ask.

since you like to walk (incidentally, i think you've answered your own question re transportation) and shop, i suggest you stay somewhere in the french concession. the okura garden, in particular, would be worth a look.

getting around - use cabs, no better way. super cheap. dirty but cheap.

Just back from Shanghai and ended up eating at a real nice resturant in Pudong. South Beauty on the 10th floor of the shopping center across from the Pearl Tower.
