Let's give a warm San Diego welcome to not just one but two Flyertalkers - Alysia from DC and Kathywdrf from San Francisco. Tentative plan is Saturday 5/27 at 6 pm at Spices Thai Cafe in Carmel Valley. There is easy access off the Carmel Valley exit of I-5, plenty of parking, superb food and of course our favorite ladies to catch up with.

Looks like that's the way the cards are falling this year. I've enrolled in a graduate program, the summer trimester begins in early May, and I don't think I can take time for a trip to Oz at the end of May. (Yeah, I suppose I could fly there for just three days or something, but....)
Anyhow, two out of three ain't bad! (Ozfests I've attended, that is.)

I've never been to San Diego before. I wanted to stay at Marriott, but couldn't decide between Mission Valley and LaJolla. Apparently Mission Valley is in walking distance of a downtown trolley stop. I enjoy being a pedestrian when I can. How far are either of them from the restaurant? Does San Diego have much public transportation so I won't have to consider renting a car?

The LJ Village Dr one has poor transportation. It's a good location if you have a car but far from downtown SAN and the airport itself (which is downtown).
Both are pretty far from where we're meeting. If you like, I live 10 min from Mission Valley, I can offer to transport you to/from lunch (or drop you off downtown if you like) since it's just a 15 min drive for me. From all the attendees, all I can tell is that I'd probably be the furthest south.

Judi and I were at Zhivago last week and agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. We were in Row 2 because we had changed our seats from our regularly scheduled subscription date. redbeard911, you missed it. owlchick came in her bird outfit. Now you're on the hook for the next dinner - a bear costume, wasn't it?
Here's the lemon souffle recipe, adapted from Paul Palmer's directions. Any errors are ours in taking it to US measurements.
Citron Surprise
Preheat oven to 325F
2 Tbsp Butter (cut into small pieces- cut up frozen)
2 egg yolks (separate yolks from whites save whites)
6 Tbsp Powdered Sugar
1 ½ Tbsp Flour
2 lemons (peel skin and squeeze juice)
1 cup milk
1. Mix above ingredients in blender and run for several minutes to grind peel and mix in butter.
2. Whip egg whites until frothy and stiff.
3. Fold egg/lemon mix into whites and mix with a fork.
4. Coat the inside of six ramekins with butter or spray with Pam
5. Set ramekins in a casserole with ½ inch hot water.
6. Divide the mixture evenly throughout the six ramekins.
7. Bake at 325F for 30 minutes, rotate every ten minutes. Best served when warm.
8. Sprinkle with sugar and serve immediately.
The same mixture can be cooked in one large dish for just about 50 minutes. It separates into a curd like base with a sponge top layer.
