MilesBuzz! - Can I have bags checked through on two different tickets?
Hi all --
I'm scheduled to fly SFO-LAX-TPE, with the SFO-LAX leg on UA, and the LAX-TPE on SQ. Even though the SQ one is just two hours after the UA flight lands, they are on two separate reservations, the UA one through United's web site, the SQ one through Expedia. (I wanted specifically to fly SQ, and doing this actually cost me less than a single SFO-LAX-TPE fare!)
My question is, can I have my bags checked through to TPE from SFO, even though the two flights are on separate tickets? For instance, could I give the UA agent my SQ res. info, and have them manually print out a tag?
sorry if this is a basic question, but this is the first time I've encountered this situation.
Thanks!
yes - you can let the luggage have checked trough.

As long as you are BOOKED on the flight in question, any airline with interline agreements can tag your bags through.
I've checked bags on THREE AIRLINE itineraries that involved a mixture of award ticket, paid ticket and non-rev travel and actually had it delivered on the other end, so good luck!

I believe the term is "interline baggage transfer."
You may want to say this when you check in, so the agent knows what to do.
But then again, considering the sad state of people-quality these days, don't be surprised if the agent doesn't know and makes you out to be the smartass.

One only needs to read your message to know that if you recieve less than standard service it is probably due, in large part, to the way you approach the individual. Being kind to begin with and having a little patience generally will get great results.
As to the checking of bags through to your final destination - I was always lead to believe that the reservation must also be in the computer of that airline which you would like your bags checked through to. I could be wrong, as I sometimes am, but I thought they had to check you in for your flight in order to check your bag on as well. They could not do this if your reservation was not in their system. If United didn't have a hand in making the reservation it would probably not be in their system. I also would think that this would weigh especially true when traveling internationally. Good luck no matter, I hope I am wrong so that you can avoid hassles.

Just make sure you let the next airline know that you have bags checked all the way through. They will most likely need to input information from your luggage receipt/stubs into their system.

as flyer: i can't think of a time when this occured w/ res on 2 different systems. i usually book on aa or travel agent [who uses sabre] . i think that aa still uses sabre[haha]. it's possible that different res systems might cause problems, but i don't think so. last year checked bags thru aa-ba on separate tickets. does any one know? don't try southwest!

I booked two tickets (BWI-DEN-SFO-FAT-SFO-SEA-ORD-BWI and SEA-YKM-SEA) for over the holidays because it was cheaper by about $500 (same flights) than combining the itineraries into one.
(I tried United, ual.com which wouldn't price the itinerary at all, expedia, and orbitz -- the cheapest single itinerary was expedia, and I ultimately booked the two itineraries separately through expedia).
So, on 12/28 I'm flying FAT-SFO-SEA-YKM with the FAT-SFO-SEA (united) on one ticket and SEA-YKM (alaska) on another.
Can I check my bags through when I get to FAT? United didn't book the Alaska ticket.
Then on 12/30 I fly YKM-SEA-ORD-BWI, with the YKM-SEA on one ticket (alaska) and the SEA-ORD-BWI on another (united). Hoping to check bags through to BWI..
