Group,
Anyone have any info on why the USAir / AWA merger affected their partnership with AMEX Membership Rewards? Also, are there any plans for them to become a point transfer partner again?
Thanks,
ChuckB

Heard their branded Visa or mc supplier required it or that they made more money off the branded card so they dumped AMEX. All one hears is not necessarily true.

The US/Amex relationship is no more.
Change over to the Starwood Amex and you can then transfer 1:1 Starwood Points to US miles--and you get 25K for only transferring 20K.
Or pickup a Usair MasterCard from Juniper and get 50% bonus for the first yr.

if I switch my plain old every day run of the mill Green AMEX card to a SPG AMEX do I lose the MR points I have?
Yes, you will loss your MR pts when you switch to SPG card because that card don't accu. MR pts. I think you have up to 90days to use up the point before the MR account close

Received a few offers for that card from USAir.... from what I can tell by reading all of the fine print the card isn't that great of a deal. Although I don't like any credit cards. My original draw to AMEX was they offered the best charge card products. I like paying in full every month and not actually having a "line of credit".

Can you tell me what is not a great deal about it? I have had no problems with Juniper Bank with all my cards with them.
As a merchant, I do not like cards that much either. I also pay off all my cards each month whether it is a charge or credit card.
Amex cost about 1% more in fees than m/c and visa, so they should have a better program, but they don't with MR, and SPG is mostly a Starwood program.
I have the Usair m/c only for the bonus miles. In a year, when the bonus is over, I will switch back to my Diners card as my secondary card.
My first choice is my SPG amex (which is also a line of credit card) I rarely use my Centurion card for charges anymore because MR is dead. I hate waiting for an extra month for the points to post and most have pulled out of MR.

I don't have the terms and conditions any more, I tossed them the same day it arrived after I read through it. There seemed to be a lot of fee's involved with the card, also your miles are limited to one airline. If your someone who only flies USAir then I might be a good deal, but my main draw to MR was the flexability of the points. I hear the Starwood card is a good deal, but I've always preferred charge cards to credit cards. From a merchant standpoint I can see why AMEX is a draw back, it cost more to take that card then Visa/MC.
Here are the terms.

$79 annual fee after two yrs is a little high but I will cancel by then. The rate is obviously outrageous but so are all credit cards.
I just pay off all my cards no matter what each month. Juniper has not made a penny from me, other than when I paid off some merchandise that I personally bought from my company. It worked out to a penny a mile.
The funny thing is that I don't think I have ever flown on US air. I am just banking as many miles as I can into the different air alliances.
Replying to your original question. I think the chances are very slim that US air will be back in MR in the near future. So if you want US Air miles your option is one of these credit cards.

The APR on that card was very high. As long as you pay in full I guess it doesn't matter. I guess the only way I can use MR points for US Air travel now is to book on the AMEX Travel Website. Personnaly I like Travelocity and the other ".com" cheap flight sites but AMEX Travel has a good deal now and again. Good luck with the US Air Card.
Cheers,
ChuckB
Amex Travel is Travelocity.
Membership Rewards points can still be transferred to two Star Alliance carriers: Air Canada and ANA, who offer award travel on alliance partners including US Airways.
